Know Your Vote: Gerald Clark, Madison City Council District 6

Gerald Clark

With the goal of keeping local parents (and voters) as informed as possible about all things parent-related, the editors of Rocket City Mom compiled “4 Questions for the Candidates”. We asked all the Huntsville City and Madison City candidates to answer the same four questions, and have published their responses unedited and as they have sent them to us.

Get to know a little about each candidate and where they stand on serving local families in our full Know Your Vote series. We encourage all of our readers to exercise their democratic right and vote on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

4 Questions with Gerald Clark

Q. What do you see as the top three most pressing issues facing Huntsville today? What are your plans to address those issues?
Top three issues are schools, growth, and infrastructure improvements. Growth is a good problem but must be managed to not outpace our schools, roads and services. Madison needs more industry and commercial to provide the funds for services while managing the number of homes built to maintain a manageable balance.

Q. Why do you believe you are the right person for this office?
I am the right person for this office because I have listened to the citizens and voted their concerns over that last 8 years. It was my goal to communicate the wants and needs of the citizens in District 6 and not my own. I am committed to do the same over the next 4 years. It is humbling and an honor to be your voice on our council. I believe my education, professional experience and practical knowledge gives me the tools to continue to work for the citizens.

Q. As the incumbent, what new or existing initiatives do you look forward to working on? If you are a challenger, what will you do differently than the incumbent?
It will be a great opportunity for the newly purchased 3 Springs Facility to go from “a detention center to a community center” and becoming a place to heal the divide in our city. The future of Madison also, depends on managing growth, walking in step with the school board and building more economic base throughout the whole city.

Q. What is your overall vision/mission when it comes to families living in your city? What are your ideas about how to best serve them specifically?
The mission has always been to provide the best quality of life citizens ask for while maintaining Madison as a great place for parents to raise their Children. We must maintain our schools with parent involvement, family activities, while expanding our greenways and trails, with the completions of Madison’s first Passive Park.
