Fantasy Playhouse Brings “Akeelah and the Bee” from Screen to Huntsville Stage

In celebration of Black History Month, Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater proudly presents the third production in their 58th season of children’s theatre, Akeelah and the Bee. Be sure to save at least one of the show dates in February and make plans to bring your whole family!

About the Show

11 year-old Akeelah spells words because her daddy taught her to, not because she’s trying to get a reputation as “the Brainiac.” After she wins her school’s bee, she studies for the national competition through personal difficulties: school bullies, gun violence outside her window, and mourning the loss of her father. Audience members will cheer Akeelah’s triumphant journey about the transformative (adjective, “t-r-a-n-s-f-o-r-m-a-t-i-v-e”) power of community, mentors, and friendship.

Akeelah and the Bee is a show originally based on the 2006 inspirational movie starring Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne, and Keke Palmer. It is family-friendly and recommended for ages 9 and up.
