Spend your Spring at Burritt on the Mountain
Despite the crazy weather, spring is just around the corner and there is no better way to celebrate than with a breath of fresh, mountain air! Burritt on the Mountain has announced their spring events for kids this year and it’s full of exciting things to do to help bring in the season.
Burritt on the Mountain announces Spring Schedule
From wild goose chases to cow-milking and more, Burritt On the Mountain has an exciting event lineup that will offer something to kids of all ages. Best of all, these programs are not only educational, but interactive and perfect for engaging the littles. Plus, it’s outdoors in the sunshine!
Fire On the Mountain
Travel back to the 1800s when cooks prepare historic recipes over open fires and cast-iron cook stoves and blacksmiths hold live demonstrations at the forge. A returning favorite, Fire On the Mountain will take place March 2 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Burritt.
Immerse Yourself in the Past around Burritt
Designed for families with children ages 3 to 12 years old, Blast in the Past offers engaging hands-on experiences that provide a glimpse into the lives of early Alabamians. Let your kids dive into history as they dress up in period clothing, enjoy pretending to cook and clean in an 1800s kitchen, and discover how to wash clothes using a traditional scrub board. Watch as they learn how to weave on a loom and enjoy building their very own kid-sized “log” cabin. But the fun doesn’t stop there! Children can dig in a garden, try their luck at panning for gems, and experience a day at school using slates and chalk. Don’t forget to visit “Boxy,” our faux cow, for a hands-on milking experience that kids won’t soon forget..
Easter Jubilee
Everything old is new again at Burritt’s Easter Jubilee! Burritt will once again host a day of rollicking fun at this come-and-go event for kids and families. This year enjoy Easter and springtime the old-fashioned pioneer way on Saturday, March 30, from 11:00AM – 3:00PM. Grab your Easter basket and join us on the mountain to collect eggs and treats from Burritt’s frontier friends. If you don’t want the fun to stop, come experience the Blast in the Past scavenger hunt throughout the historic park! Build a log cabin, visit the old country store, pan for gems, play pioneer dress-up, cook a pretend meal, and much more!
Spring Farm Day at Burritt on the Mountain
Learn about life on the farm during the 1800s during Spring Farm Day! Enjoy sheep shearing and blacksmith demonstrations and watch wool be spun to yarn, milk a faux cow, play with antique toys and view antique farm equipment. Try your hand at rug beating, butter churning and mattress stuffing and leave with a new appreciation for modern conveniences. The festivities will last from 10AM – 4PM on April 13.
Nature Rangers Camp at Burritt On the Mountain
Make spring break even more exciting when you join Burritt for Nature Rangers Camp: It’s a BLAST Visiting the Past March 11-15, 2024. Join their CPR-certified staff and escape to the outdoors while learning about different folk tales from around the world and close to home. Campers will get to meet some of the animals that star in the tales and enjoy some hikes on the beautiful forested trails.
The deadline to register is March 5. Camp is from 9AM – 2PM daily with extended care options available. Register Here.
