Totally Free Summer Fun in Huntsville
1.) Loiter at the Library
Seriously. The librarians love it! They WANT you to come hang out in the air-conditioning, reading books and participating in all the great free Summer Reading Programs they host. 2.) Splash in the Pop Jets
There are so many free pop-jet fountains to splash in now: Bridge Street, the Children’s Fountain downtown, Brahan Springs, and (our favorite!) at the Showers Center are just a few. Slather up the kids in sunscreen and have some fun in the sun! Get our list of area Splash Pads
3.) Play at Hays Nature Preserve

4.) See a Free Flick

5.) Get your Jam On
Music lovers of all ages will undoubtedly enjoy the variety of free local concerts offered in Huntsville. They come in all sorts & sizes: Concerts In the Park, Gazebo Concerts, Concerts By the River, Jam Sessions on the Square – even Library Concerts! We’ve got a whole list HERE.
6.) Go Hunting for Art
Huntsville is not only a place for rocket scientists and engineers, but a city full of creative artists with fun murals spread throughout for us to discover and enjoy. 7.)Â Play Some Disc Golf
One of Huntsville’s favorite past times is fun, played outside, great light exercise, and provides the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with older kids, one-on-one or with a group. It’s easy to learn and there are some great kid-friendly courses around.
8.) Go Creek-Stomping
Surely you know what creek stomping is – this is Alabama in the summertime, right? Where the trees are lush and green, the fireflies flash around 8:00 PM, and just about every kid has an old pair of tennis shoes they can throw on to stomp around in the nearest stream.
