When I was a kid, one of my favorite things to do was help my grandparents in their giant vegetable garden. I’d play hide & seek in the rows of the lush tomato towers, rattlesnake beans, and corn stalks, and “help” pull up weeds around the turnips, okra, and squash. Just about every meal we had on our table included something from that garden, so I grew up thinking everyone ate from their backyard. Now, if I want something that fresh, I head to one of the many farmers markets here in the Huntsville area. Many of them are adjusting to this new normal and finding new ways to get their produce, eggs, meat, and other farm-raised goodies to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Huntsville Farmers Markets Open During the Pandemic
If you’re like me and feeling nostalgic, or you’re learning to cook new recipes, or you’re committed to supporting local farmers, keep in mind these markets are open during the pandemic and deemed essential just like grocery stores. They are taking great precautions to make sure customers stay safe and practice proper social distancing. Plus, buying from a farmers market directly supports a family small business, no small thing right now.
