The good people at the Madison City Farmers Market know it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves and eat fresh, healthy food. It’s equally important to support local farmers who still have a whole bounty of good things to sell at the beginning of the spring produce season!

What’s Different This Spring?

This will be a MUCH more pared down market than is usual for MCFM. Only produce, meat, eggs, cheese, bread, and other prepared foods will be sold. Since there will extra space, all booths will be ten feet apart to allow for better social distancing. All vendors will wear gloves when handling, packing, and selling at the market, and only vendors will be allowed to touch the products and tables.

During this time, non-food vendors – like arts, crafts, and plants – will not be included at the market.

Usually the market is a lively place with music, lots of samples, and lots of friendly dogs to greet. But during this time and possibly into the month of May, the MCFM will remove all non-essential socialization from the market. You won’t hear any live music – except maybe some bluegrass recordings to add a calming vibe. The picnic tables will be removed from the market area, and no pets are allowed at this time, with the exception of service animals.

Vendor tables will be sanitized every hour, and all vendors will arrange tables at the front of the booth to ensure an adequate distance between customers and food items.

Keeping with CDC Recommendations, customers are requested to attend with the lowest possible group size (1-2 people per household). They’ll save the yummy samples for later this summer. If you have a favorite vendor, pre-order and pre-pay when possible.

Plan to have Fresh Local Food for Your Table!

If you’re still going to the grocery store, you can shop at the farmers market. They have so many staples families need – eggs, bread, meat, fruits, and vegetables – and are taking extraordinary precautions for their shoppers during the time of Covid-19. PLUS, you’ll get the warm-fuzzies for supporting local farmers and small business owners that live and work right here in North Alabama. It’s a win-win!
