It’s My Party: Roller Time
Planning a party is one of the parts of a parent’s job description that can be the most daunting. What’s age-appropriate? Where are the best places to consider as party venues in Huntsville and Madison County? How can you throw a good party and stay within your budget?

Age & Gender of the Child: 7th birthday for girl
Party Theme (optional): Roller skating birthday
Party Location & Facility Rental Costs: Roller Time Skating Center before public skate, private party on Saturday morning $200.00 plus tax. Roller Time is about a block of North Memorial Parkway. (It used to be Rainbow skating rink.) Every staff member I came into contact with was friendly, accommodating, and appeared genuinely happy to be working there. They often asked if I needed anything – really.
# of Party Guests: About 18 children, plus parents
Invitations: Roller Time provided postcard invitations that they said they would mail if I wanted. I mailed them myself but, it was a nice offer. The invitations did not have RSVP and I wish I had added a note. It is just nice to know.
Cake & Food: The party cost included 3 large pizzas and 3 pitchers of drinks plus enough plates, cups and forks for the pizza and the cake I brought in.
Games & Activities: They have several activities for the party like limbo, red light green light, and races. I did forget to tell them to skip the limbo but there was no issue. They use tickets for partygames that the kids can then trade in for prizes. They have the birthday child hold the end of a roll of tickets and have them skate as fast as they can while they unroll. Then they can trade the tickets for prizes. She picked a mood ring and a stuffed frog.
Favors: I had a coupon for a free glow upgrade which was a pile of cotton candy with glow sticks, glow rings and candy. Something different for sure. The facility gave the birthday girl a birthday hat that glowed and blinked and a necklace that glowed and blinked. Nice touch.
Online Resources You Used to Plan: I took the advice from a Facebook post from a friend that asked to stop the takeaway bags. I did but, in retrospect since the party ended near lunch and children rarely eat enough while playing I should have provided a snack bag.
