Yo Gabba Gabba Rocks!

Yo Gabba Gabba Rocks!

As the editor of a parenting website, I’ve seen my fair share of kids’ shows. At first, this was a big perk, “Hey, kids. Mommy’s got tickets to see Curious George Live! How awesome is that?” But slowly, it’s become a bit of a chore. Don’t get me wrong, our daughter has loved every Disney, Nickelodeon, and Sprout live show she’s seen and we’ve enjoyed those shows because she did. But let’s be honest, not every show is better “LIVE!”.

[sws_pullquote_left]I think my husband captured it best when he later described it as Lollapalooza for toddlers. [/sws_pullquote_left] We have our tricks, like leaving at intermission and telling our daughter that’s the end of the show, and we now know to be pickier about what we agree to go to. But there is one show we’ve been to in the last three years that was not only better live it is actually on my list of favorite shows. Not just favorite kid show, favorite SHOW. Ever.

In the fall of 2010 my daughter was 2.5 years old and Foofa, Toodee, Plex, Brobee, and Muno were her best friends. When we learned Yo Gabba Gabba Live! was coming to Huntsville, we knew we had to go. This was actually before I had launched Rocket City Mom so we coughed up a pretty penny for three tickets and backstage passes. tiny_dj_lance_ygglI’m not gonna lie, it was expensive, but it was really the first show like this we had ever attended and she was SO EXCITED. We don’t go overboard at Christmas or birthdays because toys are toys and she grows tired of whatever new trinket she gets pretty quickly. We believe strongly that it’s experiences she’ll really remember so we bought the tickets and spent weeks talking about it and getting her excited about it. By the time the night itself came around, she could barely contain herself.

How do I explain what it was like? I think my husband captured it best when he later described it as Lollapalooza for toddlers. It was kind of insane – bubbles and balloons everywhere, screaming (with excitement) children, and lots and lots of music. Oh, and Biz Markie.

Rather than really describe it, I’ll just share this tiny bit of home video. I think you’ll get the picture.

Backstage we got to meet the characters, have our pictures taken with them, and generally just hang out. There was a story time with DJ Lance and we got some great footage of our little one playing peek-a-boo with the DJ. It made for a nice addition to our annual Christmas video. I can honestly say we ALL had fun and it was money well spent.

  • Our son loved Disney live, the only show we have ever attended. This one sounds great too!

  • We loved Yo Gabba Gabba! I took my oldest son to see it in fall 2010 when he was 2-1/2 and I was pregnant with our 2nd son. I’d love to take my youngest this time too 🙂

  • Our daughter will be 3 this weekend! We haven’t yet shelled out the money for any of these shows, wondering if she will enjoy it enough to justify that price tag! But she loves Yo Gabba and we would love to win tickets! Thanks for your great review on your experience either way!

  • We went to Phineas and Ferb last year and my kids really enjoyed themselves. The prices were crazy, but the kids really had a lot of fun.

  • Getting to see my Atlanta Falcons play against Seattle in Seattle in 2010. So Awesome to see my team play an away game.

  • do Broadway shows count? if that is the case, beauty and the beast (& rent) is my favorite! my elementary school took us to Disney on ice a bunch of times…those were always lots of fun!

  • I love YGG! My kids do too, but I think I may like them more! LoL. I have 3 boys, ages 6, 3, and 8 months. It’s rare we get to do anything as a family since my husband works so much and I’m a full time student. I would be over the moon to win these!!!!

  • We’ve been on the fence about this show but my now 2-year old did have fun going to Veggie Tales and Fresh Beat Band. For FBB we got into it with my wife dressed as Kiki and my son and I both as Twist. If we do make it to YGG it won’t be in character.

  • We took my daughter to the Phineas and Ferb show when it came to Huntsville…. she absolutely loved it!

  • I think my son would die happy if he got to meet brobee since he sleeps with a stuffed brobee every night!

  • So far my little ones favorite seems to have been Fresh Beat Band, they were dancing in the aisles. But they also loved Disney on Ice…and so did I!!!

  • The first time I took my daughter to the circus was the best. Her little face had a smile the entire time. Great memories!!

  • Favorite shows have always been any Cirque du Soleil show we get to catch but I know my 2 year old would LOVE this as her first live show!

  • My daughter love Yo Gabba Gabba….and I kind of do too:) Shhh dont tell!

  • We have been to many and without hesitation felt The Fresh Beat Band Live was incredible. The performers made the kids feel so special. Highly recommend that show!

  • We have taken our kids to Sesame Street Live, Yo Gabba, and Veggie Tales Live. We enjoyed all of them but YGG was our favorite. Thanks for the opportunity to win tickets!

  • We have never had a LIVE show experience, We have heard ONLY GOOD THINGS!!!! And with my 2 little girls who LOVE YGG we would love to see the show!

  • and I forgot to mention – we haven’t been to a live show before so maybe this will be his first!

  • I LOVED YGGL the last time they came to Huntsville! It is one of the best live shows for kids (and adults)

  • My favorite is the Disney shows! My son really loved the one with the Disney Cars Characters

  • We had the best time at the fresh beat band concert. We even got to meet Tara Perry’s mom.

  • Best live show we’ve seen was the last Disney on ice that came. The way the cars moved around on the ice was very impressive!

  • I have never been to a live show. Not as a kid or an adult. I am super excited about this one. My two year old loooooooves Yo Gabba Gabba!!

  • I love that you did the whole backstage experience with your little one. My favorite concert memory is my ver first concert…Donnie and Marie Osmond at the BJCC. Donnie was my Justin Beiber! Of course we left early (though it was way past my bedtime) because I remember throwing a “small” fit as we left. In classic Mom form, mine looked at me, looked at the sky and said we couldn’t go back because Donnie had just left and there goes his plane right there. I’m certain I watched that plane till it was nothing but a speck.

  • I have been to a few live shows, not as a child though. Only adult. Having two young girls, I know they would love!!!

  • We took my girls to see The Fresh Beat Band last year, and they STILL talk about it all the time. The adults enjoyed it quite a bit, too. : )

  • This sounds like great fun! Would love to take my 4 year old to see this!!! Thanks for the article and giveaway!!

  • My son all of a sudden loves “dobie” as he calls it, he would be stoked.

  • My father used to take me to The Nutcracker Ballet every year. It’s a very fond memory for me. My 2 year old son loves Yo Gabba Gabba, and the “duppee” (Brobee), as he calls him. I am looking forward to making memories like this with my child. 🙂

  • I recently went to see Elton John at the VBC. It was WELL worth the $$! It took me back to my childhood when I would dance to Crocodile Rock. It was also a pleasant surprise to have 2 Cellos there! I’ll never forget it 🙂

  • we haven’t done a live show with our lady. we LOVED the blue men group recently

  • We’ve never taken our boy to a live show, but we’ve enjoyed the circus before he came along. He LOVES yo gabba gabba and would be THRILLED for the chance to go!

  • The Phantom of the Opera in New York City. First of many shows for me to watch preformed on stage.

  • Can remember going to the circus as a child.
Yo Gabba Gabba was our 6 year old little girls first love! Now her 2 year old brother loves them too! Her favorite is Foofa and his is Brodee.

  • we saw the wiggles when my oldest was 3 and i have to say… it was pretty awesome! we loved it!!

  • We took our oldest (and only, at the time) daughter to the show the last time it was in town. We got to our seats only to realize DH forgot to put a memory card in the camera!!!!! Luckily we found a random card in one of the camera case’s pockets, felt extremely lucky and started snapping away. During the VIP party, DJ Lance came out and held DD not one but twice! Wouldn’t you know the camera picked that exact moment to flake out?!?!?! So we have no pictures and zero proof that DD got to meet DJ Lance! We were extremely bummed :0( (But still had a great time!)

  • We have never taken the kids to a Live show…but I think that we have watched EVERY episode of Yo Gabba Gabba. Lol My two youngest would love to see them live!

  • My grandparents taking us to disney on ice is my best live show memory. I’d love to take mine to Gabba. They’d be beside themselves! “Let’s get the sillies out!”

  • I think my fave concert was when I took my little sister to see the Jonas Brothers just me and her. She totally loved it and I was just happy to share it with her. Runner up is the time my husband and I were in Atl as t Centennial park and Margin 5 was playing.

  • Our favorite live shows would have to be the Disney On Ice shows. The kids live them so much!!!

  • My favorite memory of a live show with my daughter was taking her to see the Spice Girls! Then I took my son to see Kid Rock, haha! 🙂 I would love to take my 4 yr old great Nephew to see this one!

  • My most favorite live show was seeing Super Why with my kids. We’ve been to lots of shows, but for some reason, they seemed to enjoy this one the most. It was so much fun seeing them interact with the characters, answer the questions and get excited when they knew the letters/words. Precious time with my fast-growing children is so very special to me!

  • The only live show we have been able to see was the circus. We had a great time! I wasn’t sure my daughter was old enough to take to any show, but she had the best time! Everyday she wakes up asking for Yo gabba gabba and if she sees the commercial for the show, she gets sooo excited! So I am sure she would say this would be the best live show she has seen, if we get to go! It would make an awesome birthday gift. 🙂
