Stickwork brings new magical experience to Huntsville
- March 4 - June 30, 2022 at the Huntsville Botanical Garden
Starting March 4, families will feel like they’re stepping into a fairy tale when visiting the Huntsville Botanical Garden. Bringing nature and art together, the Garden’s newest installation will feature massive sculptures made entirely of sapling branches carefully weaved together. Stickwork will transport kids (and adults) into a world of imagination where they can play and find inspiration in nature.
Sue Wagner, the chief executive officer at the Garden said Stickwork will be the perfect way for families to explore their connection to nature.
“Stickwork inspires a sense of delight, wonder, and curiosity, inviting guests to explore their role in the natural environment. Patrick Dougherty’s art is renowned for its beauty and connection to nature, and we are delighted to host one of his pieces here at the Huntsville Botanical Garden,” Wagner said.
Renowned artist, Patrick Dougherty will be designing the magical structures and teaming up with community volunteers to bring them to life. Melding his love for nature and his skills in carpentry and sculpture, Dougherty has built over 300 Stickwork installations around the world and is the recipient of numerous awards for his work.
In addition to exploring the human connection with nature, Dougherty says he enjoys the special connections with each new place he visits.
“As a sculptor building site-specific work, I am always eager to work in a new place,” said Dougherty. “In February, partnering with a new organization, working with new volunteers, and learning about a community new to me was a great pleasure.”
