Check out these 7 unique Huntsville summer camps meeting IRL in 2020
So, you’re ready to get out of the house or more accurately, your kids are. You have assessed your risk and weighed the pros and cons and decided for your family summer camp IRL (in real life) is needed. We’re not gonna lie, your options are more limited this year as a glance at our 2020 Summer Camp Guide will tell you (so many crossed out camps!), but there are still camps happening and below we’ve highlighted some we think look pretty cool.
Keep in mind there are other camps also happening this summer (especially in July) so keep checking our guide for updates and stay tuned for more camp highlights in late June. Who knows what will happen by then? To quote Ferris Bueller, “life moves pretty fast.”
Huntsville Art Museum Museum Academy
Ages: 3-14
Location:Â
Cost: $50-$225
Covid-19 procedures: Each class and camp enrollment has been adjusted to allow for social distancing during the sessions. Maximum number of campers will be 6. A staff member equipped with PPE gear will be taking temperatures with a no contact infrared thermometer at check-in. Masks are required for all museum visitors including campers. Huntsville Botanical Garden
Ages: 5-12
Location:
Cost: $250-$310/week
Covid-19 procedures: Camps will take completely outdoors weather permitting. Social distancing will be observed. Upon check-in a staff member equipped with PPE gear will be taking your child’s temperature with a no contact infrared thermometer at check-in. In accordance with current CDC and ADPH guidelines, any child with a temperature elevated to 100.4 or higher will not be admitted.  See full list of summer 2020 procedures here.
Huntsville STEAM Works
Ages: 5-12
Location: 2211 Seminole Dr. (Lowe Mill)
Cost: $200/week
Covid-19 procedures: Frequent handwashing, lots of sanitizer available and use encouraged, social distancing between campers (max 12 students), full face masks worn by everyone. Read full procedures here.
Properly Polished Manners Camp
Ages: 4-11
Location: 900 Carmelian Street, Huntsville
Cost: $70-$90
Covid-19 procedures: Limited number of participants to make social distancing possible. All materials and supplies will be for individual use only. Children will be greeted each morning to ensure fever free campers. All chairs, tables, etc. will be wiped down with disinfectant prior to the start of camp each day. See full list.
Rocket City Sewcial
Ages: 8+
Location: 2211 Seminole Dr, Studio 2000 (Lowe Mill)
Cost: $85-$125
Covid-19 procedures: Camps are limited to only 4 students. Each student will have their own table, sewing machine, notions, and supplies. Each table will be spread out at least 6 feet apart.
Rocket City Trash Panda Camp
Ages: 5-12
Location: Toyota Field
Cost: $250/week
Covid-19 procedures: Max number of 20 kids per group, limited to 200 campers total. Employees and counselors wearing masks, numerous sanitation stations, everything wiped down frequently. More details.
Star HB Horse Camp
Ages: 6+
Location: 4483 Juniper Dr., Huntsville
Cost: $200/week
Covid-19 procedures: Limited campers (10 max) who bring their own water bottles and lunches. All activities take place outside.
