Weekend Roundup July 24-26
We’re trying not to think about it, but the end of summer is near. You can always tell when the back to school ads start popping up.
Thankfully there is plenty going on this weekend in Huntsville to prolong those summer doldrums – animal lovers will be especially excited! There is also a limited time to catch the awesome local summer exhibits & installations before they leave forever – check out our list here to get there while you can. Our Event Calendar has even more activities happening in the next four days.
Finally, an Alabama Pro-Tip: if you haven’t made it to one of the many local Farmer’s Markets, this is peak season for yummy peaches, tomatoes, blueberries, okra, and field peas. For just a few bucks you can put together a supper table full of the freshest produce around!

Live Animal Show

Animal Tales is back by popular demand for an up-close live animal show to help conclude the library’s Summer Reading Program. Have you ever pet a baby kangaroo? Or held a boa constrictor? You can do all this and meet more animals at this show. Pro-Tip: this is pretty popular show, so we suggest arriving early to browse the books & grab your seats.
Family Movie Night
Friday at 7:30 PM

Grab the family and join us for a FREE outdoor movie night featuring “Home” – a flick great for all ages. There will be sno cones, popcorn, and door prizes. Don’t forget to bring a chair or blanket to sit on, and definitely bug spray! This event is hosted by Courageous Kids of Huntsville.
Madison Business Expo & Kids Day

The Madison Chamber of Commerce hosts the 23rd Annual MCC Business Expo & Kids Day – a FREE, FAMILY-FRIENDLY event. Community organizations & businesses will be exhibiting at the Expo, showcasing their products and services to the Madison community. There will be lots of entertainment for kids throughout the day with FREE activities such as face painting, balloon art, stomp rockets, tours of the Madison SWAT unit and Mobile Command Post, HEMSI ambulance and Madison fire truck as well as everyone’s favorite inflatables! It also features free hotdogs for everyone in attendance as long as they last. Be sure to come visit us around lunchtime at the Huntsville/Madison County Visitor Center table!
Dissect a Cattail at Hays

Your K-6th grader will be fascinated by this cool plant dissection at Hays! This cattail investigation uses the entire plant of the cattail, which is one of the most common plants in marshes and ditches. Learn how wetland plants were used by Native Americans, and go on an exploratory hike collecting plants to dissect. Space is limited. Reservations required. Call 256-532-5326 to reserve your spot and to get more information. NOTE: For all these events, children should wear old comfortable shoes and play clothes that can get a bit dirty. Don’t forget a bottle of water. Your preferred insect repellant, especially on the lower legs, will help fend off unwanted insect bites. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the sessions.
Summer Jammin’ In the Park

Gather your flow toys and let’s jam!! Join Circle Motion Hoops in Big Spring Park for some summer fun & great exercise. Bring your own, or hoops will be available to play with or to purchase! Hoopers of all ages will meet near the big spring (YMCA/HSV Utilities side) in the grassy area, with street and garage parking are available on Fountain Circle, Church Street, and Spragins Street.
Reptile Fun Night at SciQuest

Enjoy an evening of super slithery fun courtesy of the Yarbrough Reptile Show for a special one night event! For more than 40 years, this family of herpetologists from Birmingham, Alabama, have been presenting their live animal educational program all across the southeastern United States. During their show they will feature several live animals including snakes, tortoises, and even a baby crocodile! Discover something new about these amazing animals and also learn important warnings and other helpful information.There will be fun hands-on activities throughout the Science Center and a petting zoo after the show so everyone can meet the animals.
