Looking for a way to get out of the house with the kids but stay in the air conditioning and not spend a fortune? Look no further than the free and cheap movies offered by various local theaters. We do our best to keep this list up to date but encourage you to call the theater to verify the showing before you get there.*

This is a 10-week program that provides parents and their children a safe, fun, entertainment experience this summer. Each Monday and Wednesday, from June 1- August 5 they will show re-released classic G- and PG-rated family-friendly films. Movies start at 10 a.m. Cost is $5 for 10 movies or $1 per show. A Kiddie Combo includes a small drink and popcorn for $2.65.

Every Wednesday and Thursday in Huntsville and every Thursday in Decatur at 10AM (doors open at 9:30AM) for 10 weeks, these theaters will show G or PG movies only. Admission is $4 and includes popcorn, drink, and snack with this special promotion.

For nine-weeks, Regal Cinemas will offer selected G or PG rated movies for only a dollar on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10AM.
Note: A portion of proceeds from the Summer Movie Express will be donated to the Will Rogers Institute. Will Rogers uses the money to fund the institute’s mission in the areas of medical research and health education. The Regal Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity established by Regal Entertainment Group, also provides monetary grants to local Boys and Girls Clubs to bring club members to the Summer Movie Express.

Huntsville Historic Foundation is once again sponsoring this summer favorite. While these movies aren’t indoors, since they occur in the evening it’s bound to be a little cooler, right? Festivities begin at 6PM, with face painting, magicians, and Family Fun Hour provided by the YMCA.

Movies in the Park (Providence)
This summer there are not one but two options for people who enjoy catching free movies outside! That’s because the Village of Providence is also offering a summer of movies in their own “park” (the large green space on Providence Main Street right next to Mellow Mushroom). Movies are free and open to the public and begin at dusk, usually between 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

First Friday Family Flicks (Decatur)
Bring your family, snacks, and lawnchairs. Thanks to the generous support of both First Baptist Church in Decatur and the Decatur Parks and Recreation Department, area residents can now enjoy movies under the stars this summer at the Daikin Amphitheatre at Founder’s Park! Showtime is at 8PM.
