More Ideas & Activities for Mother’s Day

Yesterday we gave you ideas for crafts and other gifts that are sure to please mom. Today, we bring you events and activities that will get you out of the house as a family, or maybe just give mom a little time to herself. It’s her special day, it can’t hurt to shower her with attention, gifts and choices.

So What Does Mom Want?

That’s the question dads and children are asking themselves right now and we’re nothing if not helpful. We did a quick poll on Facebook to see what moms really want and it seems they want…drumroll…to relax. Some moms wanted maid service, others a massage, still more wanted time alone with dad, or just time alone. Most want all of the above. Because in one way or another all those items let her relax. Motherhood is hard work folks!

  • So many mothers days from which to choose. We went on vacation when we lived in Germany and the most exciting meal that Mother’s Day was a hot dog at a rest stop in Switzerland 🙂

  • My favorite mother’s days are the ones where I’ve gotten to sit down for a bit…

  • My best mothers day was the first one with my twins. They were 11 months at the time and got such lovable attention from them.

  • Last year, I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. I’m so happy to have both of my babies to play with and enjoy this year!

  • My best Mother’s Day memory is when I get to sleep in…so no, I don’t have one yet. But, I do love all the hand-made gifts that my girls give me. The spa gift card from my husband is nice also.

  • My best Mother’s Day was back in May 2006 when I first found out we were going to be parents!

  • I only have a couple of Mother’s Days so far, as I am the 41 yr old mom of One Beautiful 2.5 yr old Baby Girl I was told I never could/would have. My First was spent cleaning up my house to the best of my ability (I’m a disabled mom) after finally getting to come back home after the April 2011 tornadoes & week+ power outage. Our home was not hit, but there were other circumstances as a result that required days of cleaning nonetheless. I don’t think anyone really had mother’s day that year. Plus my Husband had to return to work, and as Sunday’s are one of his regular workdays anyway, I haven’t really had anything of a Traditional Mother’s Day yet. Oh, I would Love one, no doubt; even if it was just breakfast in bed, but the reality is, that its just another day around here. That’s ok though. I have my Beautiful Angel of a daughter, and a Husband who Loves me and is a Loyal, Respectable & Generous Man. What More could I ask for 🙂

  • My first mother’s day being pregnant and then as a momma was sweet. But it’s fun now that I have 2 older ones that do special things for me on that day. This will be my first year as a mom of 4 so I’m excited to celebrate again!

  • Honestly the cleaning service sounds even better than the spa right now! 🙂

  • Oh wow. I bet all of us mommies are giddy about this post! It takes a Mom to know what a mom wants :D. I would be more than elated to win! A massage sounds so amazing :).

  • I get to enjoy spending time as a family since mine are all still small… but we usually do something fun, like the Gardens or the zoo.

  • My best mothers day was in 2010. The first one I spent with my little man, and this years will be even better because I have two little men.

  • For some reason EVERY single year my brother and I would act our absolute worst on Mother’s Day. I swear it was not intentional – we would plan our gift for our mom and try to be on our best behavior but without fail we would always end up getting into a fight. Mother’s day is special to me for several reasons now I celebrate my mom, being a mom, it also is my anniversary, and my husband’s birthday. Last year my daughter unfortunately continued the family tradition of ruining mother’s day. She threw the worst atomic meltdown fit and then my husband and I got into a huge fight. Mother’s day seems to always get the best of me – here’s to hoping this year is a better year!

  • I love the homemade artwork – especially if my husband helps my daughter clean up her mess afterward!

  • For my second Mother’s day, 2007, my hubby came home from work with his hands behind his back & asked me to pick a hand, that it was my Mother’s Day present. When I did, he revealed 2 bags of chocolates. He handed me the one I “picked” & proudly proclaimed that he got them buy 1 get 1 free & had a coupon, oh & the second bag was for him! lol He is finally starting to learn what NOT to do for Mother’s Day & I can laugh about it now, but at the time I didn’t find it funny at all!

  • Every year my Mothers Days get better and better. This will be my 5th one and i can’t wait to see what they have cooked up.
Last time i enjoyed all kinds of sweet treats all day from my babies and hubs.

  • Well, I haven’t had any memorable mother’s days. This will be my 5th mothers day and my hubby has been deployed or away at training EVERY Mother’s Day since I was pregnant for the first time. One year I will get to relax!

  • I’m so glad my mom is active in my kids lives. I thank God every day for her health.

  • My most memorable Mother’s Day was last year. I was 9 months pregnant with my third son and had my C-section scheduled for the next morning. My husband packed up my two older sons and drove them to Arkansas to play with their Nana and Papa for a couple of weeks. I was completely alone all day, and alternated between weeping because I wasn’t with my kids on Mother’s Day, frantically cleaning, and gleefully taking a (lukewarm) bath with a book. I think it’s the only day I’ve been alone in my house all day since I became a Mom!

  • My first Mother’s Day I got nothin! Not even any acknowledgement! I was…not happy. I got the classic “your not MY mom” from my husband. Needless to say, that is not a mistake he will make twice!

  • My best mother’s day was my first one as a “mom.” Having my first son made me truly appreciate my own mother.

  • Great minds think alike…..I told my husband that a house cleaning was all i wanted for mothers day 🙂

  • My best mom’s day was last year going to the Nashville Zoo with my kiddos and spending the day seeing the animals through the eyes of a 18 month and 3 year old 🙂

  • This will be my first Mother’s Day! I have a 10 month old little boy who lights up my life. I would love to win this. 🙂 I will be spending my first Mother’s Day at work.

  • Last year was my first…and I cried because I thought I was going to be a mommy again….luckily it was a false alarm! :0)

  • My daughter was about 16 months old and she annd my mom came in with a wrapped box that was as long as she was tall and she was saying momma repeatedly. She was so excited and gave me a beautiful pink suit! So precious!

  • I think I would love having my house cleaned by someone other myself. Never have done that before. I have never had anything more than a manicure and pedicure and that’s been couple of years ago. The whole thing sounds wonderful.

  • My favorite thing from my girls and husband is I got to “sleep in” while they made breakfast one year. And then “helped” clean it up. It was a diaster but it was so sweet and simple. I think we made more of mess cleaning it up! LOL

  • My first Mother’s Day, we had just moved to St. Paul, MN. We went to the Mall of America for the first time and it was AWESOME! My son was only 5 months old and it was the best shopping experience ever. 🙂

  • They have all been special…just love celebrating the fact that I have 2 precious kiddos. That and getting a much needed break for the day is always nice!!!

  • Hmmm that is a tough one. I think one of my favorites was the time i tried very hard to cook for my mom when i was in my teens. It didn’t work so well but she tried to choke it down! She still talks about the hockey puck biscuits 🙂

  • They are all special, but I love when I get to snuggle on the couch and have some quiet time reading books with the kids.

  • My favorite Mother’s Day memory involves my sons’ excitement over my presents. One year I got roses and they keep clapping and saying, “They’re for you mommy, for you…” Winning a spa day and house cleaning could quickly become a close second.

  • My best mother’s day memory is buying a huge meal from Olive Garden for my mother who was very ill with cancer. She loved it!

  • I’m excited to celebrate my little one’s birthday on Mother’s Day. So special to celebrate her on a day that honors me. She is the best Mother’s day gift. Love you LillieBug!

  • My favorite mother’s day memory is of my very first mother’s day. My husband and I tried for 2.5 years to get pregnant and underwent 4 different IUI fertility treatments before we finally got pregnant. Being able to finally celebrate Mother’s day with my miracle baby girl was amazing. My husband gave me a lady bug necklace (our nickname for our daughter is “Laneybug”) with our daughter’s birthstone in it- the 2nd most perfect gift!

  • I haven’t had a mother’s day yet! This will be my very first one. 🙂

  • The best Mother’s day is the one where hubs makes all the food- related decisions. I honestly don’t care if it means we are eating boxed mac and cheese for dinner. As long as I don’t have to think about what to make, go to the grocery store, cook, and then clean up, I am a happy mama.

  • This prize sounds heavenly, especially for this momma pregnant with #3! I have always been blessed to spend Mother’s Day with my own mom and even grandmothers (when they were still living). Now I get to start that tradition with my own children–love it!

  • This is my first mothers day! I’m a Mommy to a 7 week old. I enjoy reading RCM every day while holding my baby as he sleeps.

  • This sounds too good to be true 🙂 thank you for putting it together.

  • Love all the ideas for Mother’s Day! My favorite Mother’s Day we had a picnic at the park. It was so fun and relaxing!!

  • Some great ideas for Mother’s Day! My favorite gift so far has been hand painted tiles by my little ones with their finger/hand prints.

  • My favorite Mother’s Day memory is sitting on my front porch on a beautiful morning eating a yummy breakfast that my hubby made with my kids climbing all over me.

  • My most memorable Mother’s Day was the first year that my son was able to make something himself. He was so excited and proud to give it to me.

  • I look forward to coming to this site every week and reading the articles.

  • My favorite Mother’s Day memory was my 1st. It was so surreal to me that the cards, cake, etc were for ME. I loved it and have loved every one of them since!

  • My husband is no good at gift buying and my first mother’s day, he didn’t even wish me a happy mother’s day. He said he didn’t think I wanted to make a big deal out if it. He is learning!! Lol

  • My daughter has been making me drawings all week for Mother’s Day! So it’s been an extra-long celebration this year!

  • This Mother’s Day I’m looking forward to my hubby sending a treat (he works out-of-state ) in the mail and spending some time with my own mother/son (family) as we celebrate the blessing of motherhood. I have learned and appreciate every “mothering moment” that a friend or loved one has shown…for those who do not have children but still have “mothering moments of love, guidance, etc…to other little ones” they deserve a Mother’s Day wish of thanks as well! After all is does take a village…

  • I’ve only had one mother’s day so far! My sweet husband gave me a charm to commemmorate our daughter’s birth (just 3 weeks prior). I got to snuggle my sweet baby all day. 🙂

  • Well I have only ever had one Mother’s Day so far..and it was very special because my husband made me breakfast in bed (in 10 years he has never done that!) and I got a camera to photograph my beautiful baby girl grow up.

  • Best mother’s day memory are hand made gifts and hubby cooking breakfast and cleaning up! My favorite was one made from Popsicle sticks background, a big heart and tiny puzzle pieces glued together with the words “I love you to pieces”!

  • The best mothers day as a child was the mother’s day that my sister was born. May 8, 1962. The best thing ever for me, mom wasn’t feeling too well but the day was special.

  • My best mother’s day memory would have to be last year since it was my first mother’s day as a mother. I am so blessed to be a mother to such an amazing little girl that everyday is Mother’s Day to me.

  • Fun! The housecleaning would be enough, but the massage would be like icing on the cake!

  • One of my best Mother’s Day memories is the year we were able to dedicate our week-old daughter on that day…after many years of fertility treatments.

  • The best mother’s day would be my first one 3 years ago after my son was born. Then again 1 year ago after my daughter was born.

  • And all of my Mother’s Days have been great. So nice to have everyone stop and focus on me for a moment 😀

  • My best mothers day was when my daughter made me toast for breakfast in bed all by herself.

  • Singing “Same Girl” by Twila Paris at our church’s Mother’s Day Luncheon in 1988. I sang it in honor of my grandmother, Mae Phillips. As I was singing, I had handed a group of photos of my grandmother, as a young girl up to her current age, to be passed amongst the crowd. It was wonderful! She wasn’t happy about the photos but loved the song. I had no idea that would be our last Mother’s Day together. She passed away the following January.

  • My best Mother’s Day was last year – I was about a week away from delivering my son, and my daughter had just turned a year old. My husband made me feel so incredibly special!

  • I’ve been a mom for just almost 3 years so the best mother day that I remember was one when we celebrated my mom a few years ago!! My parents where coming back from a trip to Guatemala and we decided to surprise my mom. We went out and bought 200 yellow roses, my mom’s favorite! And we hung them, place them and decorated all over their bedroom!! It was amazing how sweet and nice was my mom’s expression! I guess sometimes we give for granted what the little things can do for somebody! In this case my sweet mom!

  • It was the Mothers Day after I found out I was pregnant with our first child. It was very early in my pregnancy and some people knew at my church, well they called me up to get a rose with the rest of the mothers. It was so sweet and memorable.

  • The best Mother’s day will always be my first. It was also a little sad since I thought about how my mom would never be around to see me as a mom. I hope she is proud of me. 🙂

  • In elementary school, I always took great pride in making Mother’s Day gifts for my mom. I look forward to all the great gifts my little ones will make for me when they start school. 🙂

  • One of my favorite things about Mother’s Day is all of the sweet crafts that our boys bring home for me! I already have a new handprint picture in a frame up from this year!!

  • My wife is such a wonderful mother to our son and treats me with more grace and patience than I deserve. I’d love to win this for her.

  • My best Mother’s Day memory is from the year that I was FINALLY a mother! My daughter was only three months old, so it’s not like she made me cute crafts or anything, but after waiting for years and years, it was enough to know that I was finally a mommy. 🙂

  • This is my 2nd Mother’s Day. Last year was very nice. We went out to lunch and my hubby surprised me with a massage and pedi!! 🙂

  • My favorite Mother’s day was spent at Great Wolf Lodge and Bush Gardens in VA. We had the entire indoor waterpark almost to ourselves, just us and 1 other family!!! I lounged pina colada in hand and the kids played under the watchful eye of multiple lifeguards.

  • My husband always works on mother’s day, but at least that means I get to eat at the restaurants where he works every year.

  • mothers day is bittersweet after losing my Mom a few years ago, but I am starting to love the sweet little preschool gifts coming from my boys.

  • My daughter turned 3 this year, and honestly I am just so proud to be her mommy, that every year is special to me! She is such a gift and it makes me proud to be a mommy and to have celebrated 3 “mothers days” with her!

  • Last year was my favorite. I don’t evwn remember what I got. I just remember my 3 kids behaved all day and I didn’t have to change a single diaper!

  • I love the RCM website! This has made my weekends great with a tot since moving here in oct. Hope to win !

  • I was happy to spend Mother’s Day with my grandmother, mother, and daughter two years ago. It was the last Mother’s Day my grandmother was alive. Four generations together.

  • Such a great Mother’s Day gift giveaway!!! Happy Mother’s Day to all!!!

  • I loved the Mother’s Day brunch with my oldest in OH. My son escorted me to the table, and we had a lovely meal. Sweet memories!

  • Who wouldn’t want someone to clean your house while you go get a massage.

  • Today isn’t Mother’s Day, but I did get to have breakfast with my son at his school and he gave me the craft he’s been working on. But the best part was bedtime tonight…he made up and sang a sweet little “I love Mommy” song while we were cuddling.

  • The best Mother’s Day was spending Mother’s Day with my mom, who lives in Ohio, and my son.

  • Going and picking out beautiful flowers that have the same name as my son and spending the afternoon in the beautiful weather planting them.

  • This Is Awesome!!!! This Has Got To Be The Best Giveaway I Have Seen By Far!

    • I’m with you on that one! My baby girl is now seven months and ten days.

  • This is my first official Mothers Day because my little was in my tummy last year, but I know it will be the best because I get to celebrate all the happiness he has brought to our lives!!!!

  • Any mothers day with my Mom is the best! 🙂 I’m just happy & fortunate that she is here after surviving a Stroke last October. She’s not only a great Mom, but my best friend!

  • I only have a two year old so he doesn’t really “get” Mother’s Day. But I think of every hug and snuggle as my own personal mother’s day.

  • Feeling that all the family members will give you to tell you that you are one special person in their life is just amazing!!! 🙂

  • Last year my kiddo’s decorated the entire kitchen for me and made breakfast before we headed off to the water park.. it was perfect!

  • I think my favorite mother’s day was the first with my wife and our 6 month old son. I was able to surprise her with a nice picture book with tons of great photos of her and our son. We still look at that picture book today.

  • My first Mother’s Day was a very special one! There have been many sweet memories since then too. However, I’d have to say that the best moments are the ones that happen during the year by surprise. The notes of love from my 8 year old or the sporadic “I love you” from my 3 year old. Those are the special memories that mean the most!

  • My favorite Mother’s day was my first and third because I had my first and second child then.

  • Getting to sleep in and then get up and getting to spend time with my kids and getting mothers day cards they made.

  • My little one is only 3 but every year I receive the best hug, kiss and handmade card. She is just beginning to understand what Mother’s Day is all about but, I love that good morning snuggle that starts every Mother’s day off right :).

  • Although my Little Bug is a toddler, one of the most memorable Mother’s Day was receiving a hand painted jewelry box with a photo and a few Hershey’s kisses inside. Because I’m a working mom, business owner, and servant (volunteer), I could definitely use help with cleaning. I get it done and it’s always reversed only minutes later.:( You ladies enjoy this weekend.

  • My favorite Mother’s Day memory would be attending a Mother’s Day brunch with my mom. I didn’t know it would be our last Mother’s Day together. That was 4 years ago, now I have 2 little ones I look forward to making Mother’s Day memories with 🙂

  • Last year was the best. I got to spend the day with my daughter, my mother, and grandmother. It was our last one to spend all together. This year we will be honoring my grandmother. I always try to remember the wonderful insight she gave about being a mother.

  • Favorite would have to be the one when I was pregnant – husband got me a card from our future baby and it was just so sweet and unexpected 🙂

  • I love that my anniversary always coinsides with mothers day. This woukd be great for both! (Especially considering my youngest decided to color my room with a permanent marker for an anniversary present!)

  • I love being a mom! I love Mother’s Day, too! My kids are soooo excited about it! 🙂

  • Last year, when my kiddo’s made breakfast for me all by themselves, no help from dad or anyone, made me cry 🙂

  • I can still remember my first Mother’s Day (5 years ag0)….when we went for the first time to the Botanical Gardens. We ate a delicious lunch at Clementines and went on a lovely stroll through the Gardens!

  • One year, my husband and sons bought me a bicycle for Mother’s Day. We rode all the way to Ditto Landing and back my first time out and I could hardly walk for the next two days!

  • Having my kiddos make me homemade Mother’s Day cards make that day worth it and I feel super appreciated.

  • My husband took me to the beach for my first time ever a few mothers days ago. He drove me strait to the ocean and just let me stand at the edge…I cried so much from the beauty of it, the smell, and just the Ora overwhelmed me. I’ve never felt such peace.

  • Last year I was hospitalized with a high risk pregnancy. I remember the 12th was the day I first heard my baby’s heartbeat on the Doppler. The nurse said it was fast and healthy like it should be. I was so grateful! I had many miscarriages before. Even the c section and pain I’m suffering cannot compare to how much joy my daughter Redemption brings me.

  • I’m defintely going to have to say this page for future Mother’s Day ideas 🙂 Thanks!
