I’ve Been Keeping a Secret

Let me start this off by saying that I don’t do secrets well. That probably isn’t a startling revelation to many of you since I am someone who blogs about their personal life, but believe it or not, I do keep some things private. Still, it has been KILLING me not to share this personal tidbit with everyone, but I knew I needed to wait so I could get all my ducks in a row and share all the good news at once. Technically, I’ve been keeping two secrets and they’re both such great news that I’m thrilled to share them with you now.
The First One is a Big One

I’m pregnant! Yes, I am 37 years old. Yes, it was a little unexpected. But this “accident” was of the happiest kind and unexpected only because we thought it wasn’t possible. I am due in July and my husband and I are ecstatic. My daughter is mostly trying to figure out exactly what is going to happen. She asked me yesterday if she could talk to the baby and then proceeded to yell into my mouth since the baby is in my tummy.
This means that 2012 will be The Year of the Pregnancy and if you are on this journey with me, please leave a comment in the comment section because I’d love to chat with others in my situation. It also means I’ll be doing lots of posts about all I find out with regard to being pregnant in Huntsville, giving birth in Huntsville, and, of course, the resources available to new mothers in Huntsville.
The Other Big News
As if I wasn’t swamped enough, having a second child also means that I need to finally bite the bullet and get some real help. I knew this time was coming even before I knew the baby was coming but seeing that plus sign just convinced me to speed up the process.
AND I AM SO GLAD I DID!

I am very excited to welcome Stephenie Walker as my new co-editor at RCM. Most of you already know Stephenie as The Book Mama, and you might also remember her as the librarian turned Dixie Derby Girl I interviewed back at the beginning of last year for my very first RCM Podcast. After my first meeting with Stephenie I knew we were going to be good friends. She has been an unofficial consultant for this site since then and I am so happy she has agreed to go on this crazy ride with me.
Already we are planning some awesome articles for the coming weeks and months and I absolutely love having a partner in crime. Maintaining a website can be a pretty lonely process (not to mention overwhelming) and bringing on help will allow us to bring you even more local info/resources/fun this year.
Please join me in welcoming Stephenie to the Rocket City Mom family and, as always, let us know if there is anything you’d like to see on here that you feel we’ve left off or that other moms in the area need to know about. Also, thanks for all the kind words and support you’ve offered this past year and thanks for reading RCM.
Rocket City Mom is a website about raising children in and around Huntsville, Alabama. Started in late 2010 by a local mom and newcomer to Huntsville, Rocket City Mom has grown into a thriving community of local parents and now boasts a staff of four, thirteen regular contributors, and tens of thousands of Tennessee Valley readers making it the #1 Parenting Resource in North Alabama.
Congrats! and Joyous News! and all that and more 🙂
Congratulations! Wonderful news!
Congratulations!
Congrats to you both!
Such great news! I’m on that journey with you. I’m due in June, about 3 days from my toddler’s birthday. I too will be new to birthing in Huntsville, so let’s cross our fingers!
Congrats! I’m due in August, and this will be my second to deliver in Huntsville. I had a great experience with Huntsville Hospital and my doula (if not by OB…) last time.
Congrats on both counts! I adore Stephenie and think she will make a wonderful new voice on RCM.
I’m not currently pregnant but as you know I’m a huge birth/women’s choice advocate; let me know if I can help you navigate the Huntsville waters!
Congratulations…AGAIN! Hope you are feeling somewhat better than you were last month!! We are here if you need us!!
Thanks! I will try to get in soon so I can be the July Mom of the Month! You guys actually knew before even some of our friends and those pregnancy pops were awesome 🙂
Congratulations, and of course, I’d love for you to come to a LEAN Expectations class 🙂
Congratulations to you and welcome to Stephenie!
Congratulations!
Congrats. Welcome Stephanie
So excited for you and for Stephenie!!!!
I’m due early April! Oh I hope you find some awesome information before then 🙂
That’s my goal! I’m trying to figure out which day to do it (Friday or Sunday) but I plan to start a weekly article just about the pregnancy. It will be part resource guide, part pregnancy journal 🙂
Congrats! I’m due in March w/ my 4th… all delivered at Huntsville Hosp so far. 🙂
Congratulations! I had my first at Huntsville Hospital and my second in Pennsylvania. I’d say HH takes the cake (as far as experience and care), BUT the hospital in PA had flavored sno-cones on the labor & delivery floor as opposed to ordinary ice chips!
Awesome news!!! Be sure to hit up Tots 2 Teens this Spring for some newborn summer wardrobe!
Oh, I’ll definitely be hitting the consignments 🙂 Did you guys find a new space?
Congratulations! I’m actually due in July also! July 16, specifically. I don’t think my 19-month-old son understands yet, but we’re hoping to gradually acclimate him to the idea 🙂
