Taco Mama Parent Review
Mexican food in downtown Huntsville? Yes, please! Queue TACO MAMA. Pie and casserole preparations left me unwilling to cook dinner. It was a great excuse to try the new spot.
Located on the new Pelham Avenue, next door to Publix, and across the street from Huntsville Hospital main, Taco Mama offers location, location, location. There is ample (free) parking in the nearby garage. On a warmer evening, we could have taken advantage of the open air dining, however, I might think twice if my two were younger as this seems to be a heavy traffic area.
The fun restaurant atmosphere features bright colors and artwork, an easy to read menu (posted largely above the registers) and fast service. There is a walk-up counter for you to order, then grab a table and prepare to feast. The menu features a variety of tacos, burritos, and beverages. For the kids, you can opt for tacos, quesadillas, mexican mac and cheese, or nachos. My son gave it a “thumbs up”. The food was filling. We loved the crisp chips and fresh tacos and toppings.
The downside: this is a tight restaurant. If you have the choice, opt for a table as far from the order counter/drink machine as possible. If there is a line, it gets congested and can be a little disruptive to the meal. I do think this would flow better as a table order space. They had plenty of clean high chairs but no changing table in the womens’ room. It was dimly lit and the music was loud which made me feel like this might be more attractive for younger singles and couples. Our bill was $46 for 2 taco baskets for mom and dad and 2 kids’ meals with beverages all around.
Overall, we had a good experience in this young eatery. The service was great and the food was solid, so we will certainly pay another visit to Taco Mama! The easy accessibility makes this a super choice when we are downtown and craving tacos.

Christa Landingham and her husband are Madison County natives and life-long residents. They have boy/girl twins and two crazy puppers. She loves all things teaching, organizing, and supporting local small businesses. In her “free-time” she loves to garden, travel with her family, volunteer, and comb local thrift stores. Pearl Jam is her jam.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a manager and request the add changing tables to the restrooms. If we make enough noise they will do it.
