Skating in the Park Returns to Huntsville
- Open November 20 - January 10, 2020.
- Cost: $10-15
- New Covid-19 safety guidelines!

It’s back and it’s bigger and better than ever with more special events and more opportunities for slippery family fun! Skating in the Park is one of our favorite holiday activities and if you haven’t already given it a try, we encourage you to do so this year. We’re confident it will become one of your favorite memories of the season as well.
As the name indicates the outdoor ice skating rink is set up directly behind the Huntsville Art Museum in Big Spring Park. Now in its ninth year, this fundraiser for the museum has been a huge hit financially in addition to all the fun. That means you can feel doubly great about spending your money since you’re supporting the arts in Huntsville while having a blast.
How Much Does it Cost?
Speaking of spending your money… This isn’t a super cheap day of fun, but it’s not crazy expensive either and it provides a great opportunity for the whole family to have fun together with no screens in sight! Prices are as follows: $15 for ages 10+; $10 for ages 9 and under; $13 for groups of 10 or more. Prices include skate rental, and you can save $5 if you bring your own skates from home.
Are there some in your family who are a bit vertically challenged when on skates? Not a problem. Scooter rentals are available too for just $5.
Snacks, Special Events, & Amenities
Hot cocoa and hot coffee are available at the snack bar by the rink, and if you get hungry there are hot pretzels, funnel cake, popcorn, and other snacks. The City of Huntsville has also provided their spacious & stroller-friendly portable restrooms with changing tables adjacent to the rink.
There are lots of other fun activities planned at the rink for different days – keep an eye on their Facebook Page for those announcements as well as weather updates. Do you have a skater who can’t get enough and happens to have a birthday between November 20 and January 10th? Why not consider a Skating in the Park Birthday Package?

Social distancing should be practiced on and off the ice when possible. Employees will wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant every 90 minutes and will disinfect all skates and scooters when they are returned.

Hi! If I were to win, I’d take my husband and sons. Our second date (first official date – after the fact) was at an ice skating rink and I have a bunch of good memories connected to the one date. It would be a lot of fun to teach my boys to trust themselves in the rink.

If I won the giveaway I’d take my daughter, my husband, my mother, and myself. This year has been a tough one for all of us on this earth. Due to the pandemic my family has suffered physically, emotionally, and financially. I would love to have just one night with my family to enjoy the Christmas spirit and forget about all of the ugly that’s going on in this world. God bless every person that has been working hard to set up skating In the park, they don’t know what a blessing they’ve created, families can come in and just unwind. It’s a beautiful escape from this pandemic for sure!

If I won the giveaway I’d take my 6 yr old daughter, my husband, my mother, and myself. This pandemic has caused so many families countless hardships, my family included, whether it be socially, physically, mentally, or financially… We’ve all suffered somehow and we all would benefit from a little escape… That’s what skating In the park would be for my family. Getting some time to focus on our daughter, and have good old fashioned family fun, that’s something that would mean the world to us and we’d greatly benefit so I hope we win!!
