Today, both Ships tour together as a dockside “floating museum” for the purpose of educating the Public and school Children on the “Caravel”, a versatile Portuguese Ship used by Columbus and many early explorers during the “Age of Exploration”!

The Orion Amphitheater is proud to partner with Calhoun Community College to kick off this year’s Common Read program—an annual community reading initiative built on the belief that shared stories can lead to shared understanding. They're launching the journey with a joyful jamboree in honor of this year’s selected title: Bite by Bite: Nourishments and Jamborees by Aimee Nezhukumatathil. This lyrical collection of food-centered essays invites everyone to reflect on the tastes, traditions, and memories that shape who they are. Discovering Mars: Robot Explorers is now open with full-scale models of the Mars Sojourner, Mars Exploration and Curiosity rovers along with the InSight Mars Lander, and the Ingenuity helicopter. Each of these vehicles in this interactive exhibit represents the kinds of robotic technologies that have explored the Martian surface, providing valuable insight on our solar system neighbor - Mars.

The Nina & Pinta replica Ships starting June 23rd 2025, will be open for scheduled guided tours only Monday through Friday with groups of 15 or more. Ships will be open for Self-guided walk aboard tours Saturday & Sunday from 11am-5pm at Guntersville City Harbor, 29 Paddle Wheel dr. in Guntersville, AL until October 19th 2025. The Niña was built completely by hand and without the use of power tools. Archaeology magazine called her "the most historically accurate Replica of Columbus’ Ship ever built." Many historians call the “Caravel” the Space Shuttle of the 15th Century. Today, both Ships tour together as a dockside “floating museum” for the purpose of educating the Public and school Children on the “Caravel”, a versatile Portuguese Ship used by Columbus and many early explorers during the “Age of Exploration”!

Work on your writers craft! Teens ages 12-17 can join in the Kids Classroom at South Huntsville Library most Mondays for a writers hangout. In this laid back group for young writers, teens can do the following: work on their writing in a group setting, do writing exercises; discuss their writing or writing in general with other teens; receive feedback on a 3-6 page typed, double-spaced & printed excerpt of their writing. This is not a writing class, but a chance work on writing while engaging with peers!
