Thoughts From A Hogwarts Alum

Updated for 2018
I haven’t worn my Hogwarts Alumni shirt since I married a Muggle back in 2003. I mean, you can’t really brag about graduating from a school of magic when you are pretending to be non-magical, right? But then I heard that my neighborhood – Blossomwood – is supporting the magical community by having a Witches Ride on Sunday October 28th! There are “I’m A Witch” signs up and down my street! Who knew I was surrounded by so many magical families in this Muggle town?
So! I’ll be proudly wearing my Hogwarts colors as I jump on my broom and fly through the neighborhood and… Wait. What?
Who Needs Broomsticks?
It seems that this event has witches riding BICYCLES, not brooms. Hmmm. Maybe this is the Ministry of Magic’s attempt to ease magic into this community. Muggles definitely get scared by witches on brooms, maybe they thought if we rode bikes we’d be less intimidating. That’s fine.

But now there are so many other things to consider! Like my Hogwarts robes… those definitely will get caught in the wheels of a bicycle. Maybe if I put an impervious charm on them they’ll be safe? Who am I kidding, my Hogwarts robes don’t even fit anymore!
It seems we’re supposed to be throwing candy to Muggle children along the course. I wonder if I’m supposed to throw muggle candy or if I can hit up Honeydukes and grab some chocolate frogs and Bertie Botts to throw to the kids in my neighborhood. That would be a GREAT introduction to the magical world of candy…unless they got a booger flavored one of course.
I hope to see you out as we come together – Magical and Muggles alike – to celebrate this Halloween season!
And if you see me accidentally take flight, don’t be alarmed, I might put an enchantment on my bike just for fun.
