Is lunch or snack provided if a day camp?
Lunch and snacks are not provided. For full-day camps, campers should bring lunch and two snacks each day. For half-day camps, campers will need a lunch and one snack.
What is your camp’s predominant mission/philosophy?
Youth Science Camps at the Garden encourage young campers to cultivate a personal connection to plants, teach them about the rich biodiversity of North Alabama, and inspire them to take action to care for the green spaces around them. Through hands-on, engaging STEM activities, our certified instructors guide campers through an exploration of the natural world and the role they play in their own environment.
What sets your camp apart from other area programs?
Our camp activities take place entirely outdoors throughout the Garden’s 112 acres, giving campers the chance to immerse themselves in nature and learn about their environment in an authentic and hands-on way.
What activity opportunities exist for your campers?
Led by certified science instructors, campers conduct experiments, explore nature on guided walks, complete scavenger hunts, get their hands dirty while gardening, and discover the natural world on their own through nature play. Specific activities vary depending on the weekly theme of the camp.
What protocols are you following for Covid-19?
The Garden is actively monitoring and structuring camps based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) guidelines in response for Covid-19. You can read our full 2022 Procedures here.
What advice do you have for parents looking for a camp for their child(ren)?
Huntsville Botanical Garden camps are an opportunity for children to explore something new and expand their interests in a fun, safe environment. Plus, spending time outdoors encourages personal growth, sparks curiosity, and provides a multitude of health and wellness benefits, especially for young children.
