Tell us your organization’s story. How did it come about?
North Alabama SC is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides recreational and competitive youth soccer programs for boys and girls in North Alabama.
North Alabama SC strives to serve all players and all skill levels by offering developmental, recreational, competitive, school-based, and premier soccer opportunities. Our organization was founded in 2008 through the merger of two of the most successful clubs in Alabama: KICKS Futbol Club and Huntsville Soccer Club (formed in 1999). Following the merger, the club was renamed to Huntsville Futbol Club. This merger grew the club to over 600 players, and allowed us to better serve the growing needs of the North Alabama soccer community by providing program options for all ages and skill levels for both boys and girls, while also implementing our Total Soccer Development program that introduced a player-first curriculum.
In 2013, Huntsville Futbol Club merged with Valley Futbol Club of Madison, AL. This merger allowed our club to expand into the Madison community, furthering our mission to support the entire North Alabama soccer community, and growing our club to over 800 players. In 2019, we launched the first Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team in North Alabama to provide high-level premier soccer opportunities to all players, and in 2020, we expanded our premier presence to include a men’s National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) team to complement our WPSL team. In 2020, we officially rebranded from Huntsville Futbol Club to North Alabama SC to be more representative of the soccer community we serve.
Our Club continues to grow with the North Alabama soccer community. North Alabama SC is more than just a soccer club. It is a collection of parents, coaches, administration, alumni, and volunteers that work together to grow the game and strengthen our soccer community by helping to develop not only the next generation of players, but the next generation of leaders for our community.
What need does your business fill in the community? What makes you unique?
We are a player/person-centered organization. We have a place for everyone, and our goals are to help everyone reach the level they want to, while helping them become the best person they can be. Soccer is the vehicle we use to help accomplish this.
What “problem” do you see in the community that you can solve for your customers?
There are multiple ways to explore soccer in the area. If you are looking for a place that offers soccer skills development led by experienced, licensed coaches that is also an inclusive, player centered environment, we are the organization in North Alabama that provides that. Here’s a recent quote from a parent regarding an exclusive training event that her daughter’s team was invited to: “Embrace the opportunity, support your club, love your girls, and go all in. Our younger girls are building dreams and loved the opportunity. Proud of this team and my girl! Yes, I’d go again!”
Do you have any upcoming events, programs, or specials you’d like us to spotlight for readers?
Our Competitive, and Recreational Program’s registration are currently open, and fall registration/tryouts are right around the corner. Our adult Pre-Professional summer soccer season begins in May for our Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) and men’s National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) teams. These events are ultra family friendly and extremely fun!
What advice can you offer parents who are looking for ways to supplement their child’s educational journey?
Sport is a great way to help individuals grow. Sports offer a chance to work with others, learn how to communicate, think critically, and deal with adversity. There isn’t a one size fits all solution to personal growth, but as long as the child is in a safe environment that is conducive for growth, they will. We pride ourselves on providing both a safe place for personal/soccer development and talented, knowledgeable & licensed coaches.
