Why Clark Kent Can Never Hold a Baby & Other Parenting Observations

As one of my favorite speakers Jeanne Robertson says, you need to find the humor in every day life. As a new parent, it can be hard to find the humor in stressful situations, but my husband and I are working on it.

We never thought we would laugh so hard tears would stream down out face when we FINALLY made our baby laugh acting like fools.

We didn’t think bodily functions were super funny if you happened to be the victim of what we call a cropdusting. But take a little baby girl who rips one on her mama or daddy, and I’ll crack up every single time.

Believe it or not, when your baby becomes a little handsy, they go for your vulnerable spots. For my husband it’s his beard and chest hair. For me, it’s my lovely double chin fat and glasses. Who needs toys when you have extra skin on your neck and face?

So one day while we were playing with little Millie, she grabbed my glasses and I joked, “This is why Clark Kent never offers to hold babies at the office parties.” So we decided to act it out for you. It only took 6 minutes of filming a totally improvised scene for her to grab the glasses off my husband’s head. The accent you hear is just a character choice.

You may be thinking, why don’t you just wear contacts? I totally could except for these 3 things:

1) Baby fingernails are sharp and glasses provide protection.
2) They can work as a quick toy to stop her from going into total meltdown mode.
3) I would rather spend that 1-2 minutes sleeping in because I’m not a morning person.

So you’ll be seeing me in specs looking out for humor in my life!
