Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Huntsville! We are so ready to dive right into the holiday weekend that kicks off SUMMER in Alabama! In between all of those dance recitals, graduations, and grill sessions there is quite a lot to do if you want to get out and about with the family this weekend! As always, we’ve listed a few of our favorites below. Just be sure you stop into a local Farmer’s Market to pick up a watermelon or other yummy treat to bring to the BBQ!

Daikin Festival

Every year, Decatur-based industry Daikin America hosts a community party in celebration of the company’s Japanese heritage. The annual Daikin Festival is held in May at the Morgan County Fairgrounds and features live entertainment, hot-air balloon rides, Japanese cultural displays and art contest.
Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Festival

The Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Classic is held annually on Memorial Day weekend in Decatur, Alabama. Each year the Jubilee hosts about 60 local and national hot-air balloons at Point Mallard Park. Public admission is free of charge, and the weekend boasts many fun and exciting activities.
Smith Lake Memorial Day Festival

Visit Smith Lake for the Annual Memorial Day Festival in Cullman. There will be arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, live music, and contests happening all day! You can also play putt-putt, visit the swimming pool, and rent kayaks, canoes, and new for 2017: paddle boards!

Madison Disc Dog & Art 4 Paws Festival

Art 4 Paws back again at Dublin Park in conjunction with Dog Disc Days. This growing event brings the love of art and pets together for a day of fun the entire family will enjoy, right down to Fido! With several shelters and rescue groups on-site, you’ll have the opportunity to meet adorable four-legged friends who are looking to adopt a new family too!
Planetarium Show on the Mountain

The VBAS’s Resident Astronomer, Doug Horacek, will present a program about star clusters, and if weather permits you can even see some! Doug will talk about the different types of star clusters and give you some insight as to what astronomers know about them, as well as where to find some of them in the night sky.
