Evening Firefly Hikes in Huntsville
Fun Fact: Fireflies, also called lightning bugs, are neither flies nor bugs, and they are prolific in the southern states.
Another fun fact: You can see them at their peak with the new Evening Firefly Hikes at the Huntville Botanical Garden!
Children of all ages will enjoy these new family friendly night hikes at the Garden. Bring your own flashlight (red LED preferred) and the HBG Education Department staff will guide you through an evening of exploration when night approaches. You’ll see fireflies in the meadows, orb weavers spinning their webs and maybe, if you’re lucky, some nocturnal animals out foraging for dinner.
During this two hour event you ca stop along the way to roast marshmallows for a fun nighttime snack. Wear comfortable walking shoes, a glow necklace or bracelet (optional), maybe even a glow in the dark shirt and a BIG sense of adventure! These programs are designed for families with children aged 5-12, but all are welcome!
