Ninjago Birthday Party
LEGOs and ninjas go together almost as well as peanut butter and chocolate, and Ninjago is a popular birthday party theme for tons of kids. These great party ideas will help you plan a super fun birthday for your little ninja!
But planning a party is one of the parts of a parent’s job description that can be the most daunting. What’s age-appropriate? Where are the best places to consider as party venues in Huntsville and Madison County? How can you throw a good party and stay within your budget? We plan on helping busy parents find the answers to those questions and more in our series, “It’s My Party”, where we invite real, local parents to share their great party planning experiences with other readers.

Games & Activities
When you have a party at Onyx Gym, you get the whole gym to yourself. (Occasionally they may have a cheer practice in the corner, but that doesn’t interfere with the party.) The kids absolutely had a ball. There was a floor trampoline leading to a large foam pit, which was everyone’s favorite thing to do I think! There was another long trampoline, inflatables including an inflatable slide, and a large open area with mats on the floor and an obstacle course that the kids loved. It was spacious and very clean. I heard good feedback from the parents about how their kids were going to be nice and tired when the party was over! To go along with the theme, my husband downloaded Ninjago music to his phone and we were able to play it over the gym speakers during the party.
Cake, Food, & Decor
I had a local mom-owned business, Chalky Life, help me with some of the decorations. She printed Ninjago eyes stickers that we used on the balloon centerpieces and table cloths. She also made our good bag sign. The balloon centerpieces came from Athens Party Time and were only $3 each!
We had a custom cake made by local mom Cakes By Veneranda. Simply show her a picture and she can make anything! She delivers to your party and her cakes taste amazing too. We opted for her chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling with fresh strawberries – it was a big hit, and we didn’t have any left over! She also made a dozen white cake cupcakes in case we had someone who couldn’t eat chocolate.
We ordered pizza and had them double-cut it since most of the kids were really young. It arrived hot, just in time for us to eat. The kids played for an hour and 15 minutes and then we all went into the party room for 45 minutes to eat and celebrate. The Gym gave us two employees who helped us set up and took care of all the clean up! It was a big help, and we were very pleased with everything.
Party Favors
I bought some small colored bags at Party City and filled them with ninja-themed items and a couple of other things. A fortune cookie, a gummy ninja star, a slap bracelet, a parachute ninja, a fruit-by-foot, and a Lego man were in the bags.
What advice/recommendations would you have for parents considering this type of party?
This was a very affordable and fun party, and I liked that the number of kids wasn’t limited so we didn’t have to worry about people bringing siblings. The kids had fun, and I would recommend supervising the foam pit; we had to help kids climb out of it and we had to watch that kids didn’t jump on top of other kids. I would suggest bringing a bottle of hand sanitizer; the gym’s dispensers were empty and our helpers couldn’t find any when it was time to eat. There is a private bathroom in the party room where people can wash hands, but there is only one sink so it can take a while. I especially liked that we didn’t have to do much cleanup; the employees took care of that so we could load our cars.
