Pool Party at Sherwood
Planning a party is one of the parts of a parent’s job description that can be the most daunting. What’s age-appropriate? Where are the best places to consider as party venues in Huntsville and Madison County? How can you throw a good party and stay within your budget?
We plan on helping busy parents find the answers to those questions and more in our series, “It’s My Party”, where we invite real, local parents to share their great party planning experiences with other readers. Whether you’re faced with a birthday, baby shower, adoption, or christening, we hope we can make it easier for you! Our Birthday Party Planner should definitely be in your bookmarks bar – it puts ALL the local party resources here in town at your fingertips!

Cake, Food, & Decor
Since Sherwood had grills there we could use, we grilled hotdogs & burgers and brought in chips and drinks to serve with them. We also served pool-themed goodies: peach rings as pool floats, and Twizzlers for pool noodles. For the cake, my guy liked ice cream more than cake so we found this awesome Ice Cream Sandwich Cake on Pinterest. I’m a terrible cake decorator so my aunt helped make it look great with the icing decorations.
Our party area was coned off in a shady area with multi-colored picnic tables. We used different colored plastic tablecloths to each one and added a few balloons and it was an instant festive party atmosphere!
Games & Activities
The pool took care of that! There are two diving boards, as well as an expansive shallow side to the L-shaped pool. There was also another fenced-in baby pool where friends with younger siblings could play.
We went ahead and paid for an extra lifeguard on duty that was just for us. He helped us with the set-up and handled all the clean-up too. It was great to have an extra pair of eyes on all our birthday party guests and it let the parents be able to chat.
Favors
Every kid got a pool noodle sword and a water blaster to play with at the pool & take home afterward.
Online resources you used to plan
Pinterest helped with the cake and food ideas, and Evites were used instead of paper invitations. The staff at Sherwood were so helpful & nice to work with!
