Birds of Prey Show

Who can fly silently over the tree tops and cough up a squirrel skull in a single bound? (UM, Ewww!) Find out at this very special presentation from Curt Cearly of the RISE Raptor Project! We will explore principles of predator/prey relationships, what classifies a bird as a bird of prey, how raptors help humans, and how we can be good stewards of our environment. Curt will be “assisted” by one or more of his live raptor ‘teachers’ during this program. More details here.
Free Valentine Box Workshop
Saturday from 9AM – Noon

Come learn how to build a heart box in time for Valentine’s Day! This free hands-on workshops is designed for children ages 5 – 12. All kid get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Kids Workshop activities are scheduled on a first come/first served basis. Please do not arrive before 9AM. Register in advance online to reserve your craft kit.
Nature Explorers Club

The Nature Explorers’ Club is a fun literacy-based nature experience where families can spend time outdoors together in a gorgeous preserve. Today’s sessions are all about different kinds of Seeds & their sizes – popular children’s books are used to cover each topic. Geared for children in Preschool – 4th grade. Please dress for the weather in clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Free Family Concert

We’re so excited about this event we devoted a whole post to it here! Each year the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra hosts a free family concert to help parents expose their children to live classical music. This concert is appropriate for all ages – it lasts approximately one hour so it is a great way to introduce young people to the instruments and music of a symphony, while still allowing the seasoned symphony-goer to enjoy great music. This is on the RCM Must List for the weekend!
Black History Enrichment Festival
Saturday from 2-5 PM

Live music, Tuskegee airmen, free food, art and more will all be a part of this year’s festival. “Sharing our Culture, Art in Education and Mentor” is the theme and there will be plenty for families to do! Guest Speaker: Tuskegee Airmen President, Colonel R.J. Lewis, USAF (Ret), Saxophonist-Dr. Reginald Jackson, Oakwood Academy Choir, Boys and Girls Club Choir, African Drumming, NEEMA Performing Arts, Gospel choir, Arts, Capoeira and More. Print Your Own Letterpress Valentines
Saturday from Noon-4PM
Cost: $5 for 5 cards

This is a drop-in workshop; come by anytime between noon and 4pm, and spend as much time as you like on your cards! The letterpress will be set up to print five individual cards at once and a bevy of rubber stamps, paper punches, scissors, glue sticks and more to embellish them as you like. Little ones will LOVE this! Green Pea Press provides all the materials, and an apron to protect your clothes from any mishaps! No preparation necessary. Registration not required. Drop in!
