Educational Escapes in Huntsville
If you’re an educator, Scout leader, or homeschooling family your life just got a little easier, all thanks to a revamped program recently launched by the Huntsville Madison County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.
Educational Escapes is a free field trip planning service for student and youth group leaders interested in curriculum-based, fun, and exciting educational opportunities in unique environments outside the confines of the classroom. You don’t even have to leave Huntsville!
Created through a partnership with area educators and the educational directors at local attractions, Educational Escapes offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in “hands-on” learning experiences. More than just a break from the classroom, this will be a unique field trip experience that your student will remember for a lifetime.
How It Works
Let’s say you’re the Den Leader of a Scout Pack and want to earn a science achievement together. Just visit www.educationalescapes.org to get started.
You can search for Escapes in any of the following subject areas: science, social studies, technology, mathematics, language arts, and fine arts. Each field trip option is labelled with a corresponding subject icon that makes it easy to see what areas of study are included, as well as a brief synopsis of each experience. You can focus on one field of study to highlight what is going on in your classroom or you can plan a multi-discipline experience. Program lengths vary from one hour to two and three days.
You also have the option of searching for trips according to any of the following locations:
- Burritt on the Mountain
- EarlyWorks Family of Museums
- Huntsville Botanical Garden
- Huntsville Museum of Art
- Sci-Quest
- U.S. Space and Rocket Center
- Veterans Memorial Museum
- Weeden House Museum
Special Features
If your group is looking for something beyond the usual field trip, the Huntsville Madison County CVB can help you there too. They have special sections of the Educational Escapes website that detail performance opportunities, Voluntourism, and play spaces (for the younger students). The list of additional activities include Escapes in agro-business at local dairy creameries and farms, time traveler sleepovers, team-building opportunities like ropes courses, and escapes into the Arts.
To top it all off, they don’t leave you to your own devices. The CVB will help connect you to the right person to get your Educational Escape scheduled, and also create customized tour itineraries. This FREE planning assistance service is in conjunction with the educational directors at all the attractions listed above.
So what are you waiting for? Start planning a new escape for your students!
