We’ve got several of our favorites listed below, but please note there are even more to be found in our full Event Calendar. And if you don’t stop in to one of the local Farmer’s Markets going on this weekend, you’ll miss out on fresh & yummy produce and that will be very sad.

Friday Night Art Walk

Friday from 5-8 PM

There are dozens of vendors at this monthly event with a wide variety of arts and crafts as well as live music. It takes place during open entertainment district hours, so feel free to stroll with your family and/or favorite beverage while shopping and enjoying local art!

BonnaWHO? Festival

Friday from 6-9 PM

Are you sick of the biggest festival of the year being only two hours away from your hometown but you can’t afford to go? The all local, all loud BonnaWHO? festival will end the Spring Concerts on the Dock season at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. Several bands will come together on the dock stage for an outdoor extravaganza! There will also be a DIY roller rink in the First Floor Connector with a little help from the lovely ladies of Dixie Derby Girls Roller Derby League. Fun for the whole family!

Marina Day Celebration

Yoga in the Park

Parents and kids over the age of 12 can participate in this free yoga series hosted by Healthy Huntsville. Bring water, mat and towel and join Instructor Sheila Levenhagen as she leads Yoga on the grass! This class will be steady and strong, breath-centered movement. Modification suggestions and choices for full inclusion of all participants.

Family Storytime

Spend the morning with your family in the stacks! This story hour is perfect for parents that work during weekdays – do some crafts, read some stories, and check out some great books to take home.

Wet Felted Rug Stomp

Saturday 11AM – 3PM

By far the strangest event in the WERU… During this traditional wet felting collective project, lead by fiber artist Kami Watson, you can join in and learn how to turn raw wool fiber into a finished felted rug/tapestry. This is a wet, soapy, and a little dirty, family fun event for all ages. (Bare feet are recommended for this activity, but some people do prefer to wear rain boots. You may wish to bring an old towel to dry off.)

Butterfly Release

Help HBG repopulate the Purdy Butterfly House by releasing live butterflies! The program begins with a brief presentation in the Anderson Education Center classroom followed by time spent in the butterfly house enjoying an environmentally safe restoration of the indoor butterfly population. Don’t forget your cameras!

Celebrate Family Literacy

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs unit will hold the second Parent-Child Reading Enhancement Program’s (PCREP) Family Day of Education and Fun! Come and bring the entire family and neighborhood youth out for a day of fun, educational, and interactive activities, including exhibits, outdoor games, a water slide, petting zoo, food, music, and more.

Hike with the Dinosaurs

Saturday at 10AM and 1PM

Hike through the Garden grounds with a guide and see their new reptilian summer residents up close! After the hike there will be a hands-on activity and something cool for kids to take home. Learn all about the Garden’s dinosaur friends here.
