Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire – William Butler Yeats

From its inception, Rocket City Mom has made education a primary focus of this site because we know that there is no greater gift parents can bestow on their children than a great education. Last year we partnered with the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to bring an event like no other to the Tennessee Valley. Highlighting Independent Schools, Magnet Programs, Homeschooling Resources, and Education-Related Businesses Learning Expo 2014 will again give parents an opportunity to find all the information they need in one place in one day!

Join us on Saturday, February 8th, from 10AM until 3PM for Learning Expo 2014. This event is FREE and open to the public and, just like last year, will feature a full day of speakers and entertainment. Attendees should enter through the Davidson center and after visiting the Expo are encouraged to visit the rest of the museum FREE OF CHARGE.

Community Education Grants

Proceeds from this year’s Learning Expo will be used to fund Rocket City Mom’s new Community Education Grant program. Through this program Rocket City Mom will recognize non-profit organizations across Madison County, AL, that give access to opportunities through education, technology, and the Arts, to help students excel in school and develop a lifetime love of learning. Grants will range in size from $250 – $1,500 and will be awarded to local projects and programs that benefit the community at large. Applications for the 2014 program will close Feb. 28, 2014.
