- "This circus is young, hip, and rock-n-roll! Wrapped in tradition with the sweet smell of fresh popcorn."
“It’s the American Circus with the heart of a Broadway show,” and it’s returning to The Rocket City. Kevin Venardos became one of the youngest Ringmasters in the history of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. He dreamed of reinventing the American Circus tradition for a new generation, and his “Little Circus That Could”, Venardos Circus, has been growing since 2014.
Since they last visited Huntsville, the circus has added new acts, new performers, and new family members. Kevin and his partner have welcomed not one but two children, and the husband-and-wife acrobatic team Duo Acosta have welcomed a second child. The Venardos circus family is sure to bring joy to your family when they return to the Rocket City October 7-17, 2021.
Why Venardos Circus is Unique
Look for the classic red-and-white striped tent at MidCity District. You won’t find animals, but you will see critically acclaimed human performers procured from some of the biggest stages around the world. These acrobats, aerialists, dancers, stunt artists, magicians, comedians, and clowns (not the scary kind) come together to provide what has been described as “part traditional circus, part classic vaudeville and part Cirque du Soleil”. They will awe you with their talent, excite you with their daredevilry, and bring you delight through comedic acts.
Each show has an intimate feel with limited seating. Sold-out shows are expected, so purchase your tickets in advance. You will not want to miss the new strait-jacket escape or the performer who can walk on bottles while wearing high heels. Come early to grab your seats and catch the fun, one-hour pre-show party. Add more circus fun by purchasing classic concessions or a face-painting session.
The fun starts at every performance with a one-hour pre-show party! You’ll also see:
- Acrobats & Dancers
- Clowns (not the scary kind)
- Music & Magic
SNACKS: You are encouraged to order the old-fashioned classics–popcorn, cotton candy, and lemonade–in advance when you purchase tickets as they are made fresh daily (all three are also natural, gluten-free and dairy-free). Water and soda are also available. The circus is peanut-free. Costs range from $6-10. No outside food or beverages allowed.
FACILITIES: This is technically an outdoor venue, but the tent is cozy with heaters so it doesn’t feel like an outdoor event. The show goes on rain or shine and tickets are nonrefundable. Portable bathrooms and hand sanitizer are available.
LENGTH: The main event lasts approximately 90 minutes. There is a 15 minute intermission and an hour-long pre show.
ACCESS: The circus grounds are wheelchair accessible. Strollers are not allowed inside the tent, so leave those in the car or park them outside. For each adult ticket, free admission is given to a child two years or younger that will be sitting in a lap. No smoking is allowed inside the tent.
COVID-19: Masks are strongly encouraged when not eating or drinking. All Venardos staff have been fully vaccinated.
RCM FINAL THOUGHTS: The Venardos Circus is an absolute delight for the whole family! Kids as young as toddlers and as old as teens (gasp!) will really enjoy it. Adults of all ages will love the whimsy and appreciate the overall positive energy it brings. We could use some right now, couldn’t we?
See you under the Big Top!

Heather Morgan is from Enterprise, Alabama, but she traded the allergies of the coastal plain for the allergies of the Tennessee Valley. She is a former outdoor environmental educator who enjoys walking in the woods, splashing in creeks, and searching for insects, snakes, and other critters. When at home, she spends more time outside than in, especially in her pool or on her back porch where she can keep an eye on her bird feeders and her gardening fails. She and her husband moved to the Madison area 18 years ago after meeting at the University of Alabama. They, along with their 9-year-old son Luke and 13-year-old German Shepherd mix Anni, moved into Madison City proper in 2020. What Heather likes most about the area is the overall kid friendliness, the schools, and the abundance of natural and other green spaces. When she’s inside, she can be found cooking, reading nonfiction, daydreaming about international travel, and watching broody, British detective shows. She is a stay-at-home mom and Co-founder of I Vote Madison, a non-partisan voter engagement organization.
