“It’s not a huge circus yet, but it’s the Little Circus with Great Big Dreams.” Kevin Venardos became one of the youngest Ringmasters in the history of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But after five years of that, he decided to strike out on is own to make a different kind of circus.
In the years since, Venardos Circus has grown into a living example of the power of dreams, reinventing the American Circus tradition for a new generation, and bringing joy to people everywhere. Now Huntsville families will get to experience it for themselves February 19 – March 1, 2020.
Why Venardos Circus is Unique
It’s been described as “part traditional circus, part classic vaudeville and part Cirque du Soleil”. You won’t find any live animals at Venardos Circus, but you will see critically acclaimed human performers procured from some of the biggest stages around the world.
Much like the original circus tradition, you’ll find them in a classic red-and-white striped tent in Huntsville’s MidCity District. Each show has an intimate feel and limited seating, so purchase your tickets in advance to guarantee your seat. The circus performers also are the crew in this traveling tour
The fun starts at every performance with a one-hour pre-show party! You’ll also see:
- Acrobats & Dancers
- Clowns (not the scary kind)
- Trapeze Artists
- Sword Jugglers
- Music & Magic
SNACKS: Classic circus treats like popcorn, nachos, fresh-made cotton candy, natural pink lemonade and more are available to purchase. Costs range from $6-10. No outside food or beverages allowed.
BATHROOMS: This is technically an outdoor venue, but the tent is warmed with heaters and cozy so it doesn’t feel like it inside. That said, portable bathrooms are your option here, and if you don’t like those be sure to go before you arrive. On that topic…
LENGTH: The main event lasts approximately 90 minutes, with a 15 minute intermission. Our advice is if you haven’t sprung for preferred seating, get there at 6:00 PM when the doors open to get a great seat. The pre-show is great!
ACCESS: The circus grounds are wheelchair accessible. Strollers are not allowed inside the tent, so leave those in the car. No smoking is allowed inside the tent.
RCM FINAL THOUGHTS: The Venardos Circus is an absolute delight. Kids as young as toddlers and as old as teens (gasp!) will really enjoy it, and adults of all ages will be happy to see this whimsical circus visit Huntsville. Don’t we all need a little whimsy in our lives right about now?
