The Sky’s the Limit with This Space-Themed Birthday Party!
Planning a party is one of the parts of a parent’s job description that can be the most daunting. What’s age-appropriate? Where are the best places to consider as party venues in Huntsville and Madison County? How can you throw a good party and stay within your budget? We plan on helping busy parents find the answers to those questions and more in our series, “It’s My Party“, where we invite real, local parents to share their great party planning experiences with other readers.
Big thanks to Angela B. for sharing her son’s birthday party experience with us!
Out-of-This-World Space Themed Birthday Party
Age & gender of child: Boy, 7 years old
Party Theme: Space Themed Party – For Rocket City Huntsville
Party Location: My house
Facility Rental Costs: None
Number of Party Guests: 10
Decorations & Food
The Cake: I ordered a specialty cake from Publix. I wasn’t aware that I could have this done. The employees as Publix told me I could print a picture off my computer, bring it in and they would recreate it as long as it was a sheet cake. They did a fantastic job of recreating a rocket with a solar system I had found online.
More Food & Drink: I also made Toy Story alien jello, cheese slices cut out in the shape of stars, Mars round pepperoni pizza and crackers for snacks. I also printed some “Rocket Fuel” labels off Pinterest for our Gatorade bottles.
Favors & Activities
Games & Activities: We had a space theme photo booth with masks and a large R2D2 balloon from Party City as a character prop. We threw water balloons which were also considered colorful meteors, played in a giant inflatable sprinkler and played several space themed games including space trivia which was everyone’s favorite.
I thought the space theme party was a wonderful idea since we live in Rocket City, my son collects all things space and he loves and has grown up going to Huntsville’s Space and Rocket Center. All the kids did a fantastic job answering the space related questions. After the games, we handed out Milky Way and Mars bars candy bars as prizes.
Favors: For party favors and after the party all the kids had fun with a meteorite scavenger hunt in the front yard. All the meteorites were starburst candy wrapped in tin foil.
