How to Join the Rocket City Mom Virtual Book Club

rcm virtual book club

Way back in 2016, our amazing friend, Shannan Malone, approached Rocket City Mom with an idea about a regular book club for moms. Avid readers ourselves, we wanted to start a book club, but wanted it to be accessible to local women who were short on time but who also craved adult interaction. Women who loved to read and discuss all kinds of books, but just didn’t have the time to meet in person due to family obligations. Voilà – the Rocket City Mom Virtual Book Club was born!

How It Works

Step 1 – Join our Facebook Group
This is where all the discussion happens. The beauty of the RCM Virtual Book Club is its flexibility – you can participate in a live online discussion for each title we select, or you can add your thoughts to a discussion weeks (or even months!) after it happens live.

We even have occasional author events! Sometimes the author of our book pick will join us in the live discussion, or for a separate Q&A with our book club members.

Step 2 – Read the Book
We try to read a new title every other month to give busy people time before a discussion. If you participate in a live book discussion in the Facebook Group by leaving comments and observations, you could even win a copy of the next book selection, compliments of Snail On the Wall Books! Otherwise read our selected title any way you want: check it our from the library, listen to it on audio, borrow it from a friend.

Shannan, as our fabulous book club leader, will release her book review prior to the discussion to help get our mental gears turning before book club night.

Step 3 – Discuss!
We’ll announce the date of each discussion in our Facebook Group. On book club night, put the kids to bed, don your comfy pants, grab your favorite beverage, and head to the Facebook Group to discuss the book live. If you can’t make the live discussion, no worries! You can keep it going and contribute your thoughts and impressions of the book’s themes and characters any time afterward.
