We know the struggle of finding a great place to eat that the whole family enjoys or a gymnastics coach who can channel your kid’s endless energy into something productive. Now more than ever, our local small businesses need us in their corner. There is truly no better way to show that support than by telling a neighbor about your stellar experience and encouraging them to check it out for themselves. That community connection is exactly what makes our annual Family Favorite Awards so special.

Every February, Rocket City Mom readers nominate their go-to small businesses and non-profit organizations across more than 35 different categories. We then take the top three or four nominations from each category and put them to a final vote throughout the month of March. By the time April rolls around, we publish the official winners list. It’s a highlight of our year because we get to see those steadfast local legends hold their ground alongside some fresh, exciting newbies who are just starting to make their mark on North Alabama.

More Than Just Bragging Rights

Winning isn’t just about the glory. (although that is pretty awesome too) These local business owners receive a badge and decal to display on their websites and storefronts, letting every passerby know they are officially one of the best in the Rocket City. Just by taking a minute to nominate and then vote, you are directly boosting a neighbor’s livelihood and giving them the recognition they’ve worked so hard to earn.

Plus, you get the added bonus of helping other local families (and all those folks constantly moving to our area) find new favorites they may have never discovered without your help. It’s a win-win for everyone involved in the North Alabama community. Whether it’s your favorite coffee shop, your kids’ beloved dentist, or that local park that saves your sanity on Saturday mornings, they all deserve a shoutout.
