Burritt on the Mountain Launches Pre-K Pioneers: Everything You Need to Know
This fall, young learners and their grown-ups are invited to discover the magic of community, curiosity, and creativity at Pre-K Pioneers, a brand-new educational series at Burritt on the Mountain. Nestled atop Monte Sano Mountain, Burritt offers hands-on learning for families looking to enrich their preschoolers’ early education. With engaging themes, weekly crafts, and thoughtful activities aligned with state standards, this six-week program promises mornings full of exploration and fun.
Overview of the Program
Pre-K Pioneers is an immersive, weekly learning experience for preschoolers (age 4 by August 26 and not yet in kindergarten) and one accompanying adult. Designed to build foundational skills through imaginative play and discovery, the series explores the idea of community—what it means and who helps shape it. Each session is packed with interactive lessons that weave in history, science, engineering, social skills, and creativity. Children leave each week with a special craft or project to celebrate their learning. All activities are developmentally appropriate, hands-on, and tied to Alabama State Standards.
What to Expect
Over six weeks, families will:
- Meet modern and historic community helpers and explore teamwork through imaginative play.
- Become pioneers heading west to establish new communities.
- Explore how rivers shaped settlements through boat-building experiments and hands-on investigations of sinking and floating.
- Visit the barnyard, meet animals, and explore farm life then and now.
- Imagine new inventions.
- Finish with a Bluey-themed scavenger hunt and puppet theater focused on friendship, kindness, and treating others with respect.
Each 90-minute class is active, engaging, and includes a take-home craft. Sessions are designed for child and adult participation—siblings cannot attend unless registered and age-eligible.
