Color Me Mine Huntsville brings creative outlet to MidCity
Have you checked out MidCity District recently? There are so many things to do out there and it’s more than golf and rock climbing! We love exploring all the new businesses coming to the district. For instance, Color Me Mine- a paint your own pottery studio is a fantastic place to get your creative juices flowing! Our family stopped by recently for a fun afternoon getting in touch with our artsy side!
What to Expect at Color Me Mine
No reservations are needed at Color Me Mine, just walk right in! Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff and told to select our pottery bisque to glaze. These pieces range in price from $14-$45 depending on what you choose. A studio fee of $10 for adults and $6 for kids cover your supplies and the firing process. I chose a coffee mug, my fiancé selected a bowl to use for his keys, and my kiddo decided to paint a super cute penguin for her room. They have multiple options to glaze, ranging from tableware, platters, and vases to figurines, piggy banks, and dog bowls. If you find yourself with a lack of inspiration, there are design tools, paint techniques, and super talented staff to help!
We made our selections and then came the tough part- deciding what colors to use. Color Me Mine has so many fabulous options to choose from! The staff pours the glaze and labels your tray with the color numbers, this way you won’t forget your colors when you go back for refills. 🙂
You’ll want to make sure you get at least three good coats of glaze on your pieces so your colors show up when the pottery is fired in the kiln. My daughter said she loved this part of our experience the most. She chose purple and blue for her penguin and gave it an abstract makeover! I’d say the grown-ups enjoyed it too! I painted a lemon pattern on my mug and it was so nice to sit together and relax while getting to create. Parent pro-tip: The glazing process takes time, we were there for about an hour from start to finish so set aside time accordingly.
We can’t wait to pick up our masterpieces, the firing process takes 7-10 days so don’t expect to walk away with your piece that day (a good thing to discuss with your little ones ahead of time). We’ve painted pottery at other studios in the past, however my almost 5-year-old was really into it this time! I think it’s something you can do with younger kids, however shorter attention spans may not allow you to relax and paint your own pottery piece.
We did make a potty stop. The bright green door at the back of the studio leads you to a single restroom. While there isn’t a changing table, the restroom is large enough to change a diaper on the floor if you had to – and sometimes you do. #ParentLife
Parties at Color Me Mine
During our visit, a birthday party was hosted in the event space. I thought that was just the coolest idea! Color Me Mine offers options for Birthdays, Bridal Showers, Holidays, & Team Building. Head to their website to book your party. The semi-private event space accommodates 8-20 people. You can bring cake, pizza, treats and they’ll clean up (the best part). The cost of the party ranges in price based on the pottery selections your guests choose.
