Make lasting holiday memories with this production of The Nutcracker performed by the Huntsville Ballet Company. Since its world premiere on December 6, 1892 at St. Petersburg’s Maryinsky Theater, The Nutcracker has become a beloved holiday tradition worldwide. The story of Clara and her Nutcracker prince as we know it today was adapted by Alexander Dumas from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s tale, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The ballet was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s iconic score. Since then, choreographers around the world have given it their own interpretations. Still, the timeless joy of the story endures, and Huntsville Ballet brings it to life on stage in the Rocket City!

A familiar story…

The story begins at a family party at the Stahlbaum home on Christmas Eve. Little Clara Stahlbaum receives a gift from her magical and mysterious godfather, Uncle Drosselmeyer. It is a nutcracker dressed as a soldier. Clara’s brother, Fritz, is jealous of the nutcracker and breaks the toy in anger. The nutcracker comes to life in Clara’s dreams that night. He battles the wicked mice who try to steal the children’s Christmas toys. The nutcracker takes Clara on an enchanted journey through the Kingdom of Snow to the Kingdom of Sweets.
