Summer Camp Spotlight: Camp Cha-La-Kee
Cha-la-kee means “those who live in the mountains”, but for over 64 years this summer camp on the shores of Guntersville Lake has been a destination for kids all over north Alabama. With its many options for a variety of ages, Camp Cha-La-Kee is the perfect summer camp for your kid to try this year!

Grades or ages of Campers: ​Day Camp (6-12), Overnight Camp (8-15), Mini Overnight Camp (5-12),​ Leaders in Training (LIT) (13-15). Camp Cha-La-Kee Mini Camps are a great way for new campers and younger children to try camp out for the first time!
Is transportation provided to camp?
This year we are not providing transportation from Huntsville to camp because of COVID.
Camp dates: Weekly session June 6 – July 30, 2021. Day camp is Mon-Fri. Overnight is Sun-Fri. LIT June 13-18 for girls and June27-July 2 for boys. Mini Camp July 5-8​
COVID-19:Â We will follow the State of Alabama COVID-19 protocols while other decisions will be made in consultation with federal, state, and local experts in the fields of medicine and public health. We will adapt our health and safety measures to best support current practices and protocols. For now, we anticipate the use of masks, social distancing, temperature checks, and frequent hand washing.
What is the average cost of camp?
​YMCA Members receive discounted pricing! (with the exception of drop-off camp)
- Day camp (drop off) $215, NO shuttle service this year
- Overnight and LIT (6 nights) $550 Y members or $695 community member
- Mini Camp (3 nights) $340 Y members and $425 community members

What kinds of activities are offered at Camp Cha-La-Kee?
All activities offered are safe, age-appropriate, and supervised at all times.​
Day Camp Activities are pre-set and include:
- Archery
- Arts & crafts
- Canoes & kayaks
- Field games
- Ga-Ga Ball
- Giant swing
- Home​ in the woods
- Low ropes/team building
- Swimming ​pool
- Riflery
- Waterfront inflatables (The Blob, Aqua Trampoline, Saturn)
Overnight Camp Activities are more open for campers to select and include all of the above, PLUS:
- Paddle Boarding
- High & Low Ropes
- Hiking
- Fishing
- Tubing
- Outdoor Living Skills
- Drama & Skits
- Cookouts
