Huntsville Hospital Pediatric ER Prepared for Pandemic Visits
How does the only dedicated pediatric emergency services provider in the North Alabama region handle seeing their littlest patients during a global pandemic? With great care and thoughtful logistics. Dr. Jessica Branscome, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Director at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children wants to reassure families during COVID-19.
A trip to the ER is never a fun experience – add a global pandemic to the mix and some families are skipping a critical visit when they really need to take their child in for an emergency.
Hello families! In a time of so much change, I personally want to assure you that we are taking every precaution to protect you and your family while accessing health care for your children. These steps include:
- Closing our waiting room
- Sanitizing all surfaces frequently
- Assessing each patient at the door and determining if the patient should be seen on the “well side” or the designated “sick side” of our facility
- Asking patients and families to wait in their car until their appropriate room is ready, if necessary
All physicians and staff are screened daily for signs of illness or fever before being allowed to work and are wearing masks, gloves and gowns to further keep you safe. We are passionate about providing pediatric care and we want to continue to provide that care to our community.
The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages families to continue well-visits, vaccinations and physicals while cautioning that untreated injuries and conditions like asthma can lead to lifelong complications for your children. Please know we are here to serve you and answer any questions you may have, we are safe and we are ready to help with all of your child’s medical needs. Thank you!
