My family is fresh off spring break and ready to enjoy the warmer weather as we take on some of the many events happening in Madison in April! Whether you’re looking to learn a new skill, race through Madison, do some shopping for a good cause, or hit up a local festival, you’re sure to find lots of options for your family this month.
Don’t Forget!
- Opening Day for the Madison City Farmer’s Market is April 13.
- Dublin Park Summer Camp registration is currently open for returning campers. Registration for new campers will open April 13.
- Online registration for swim lessons at Dublin Park opens April 15.
- Summer swim lesson registration at Hogan YMCA also opens April 15.
- April 19 is a collaborative day for Madison City Schools. Students have a half day.
- Easter Sunday is April 21. All Madison City offices that are normally open, such as the library, will be closed.
- April 22 is a scheduled Weather Day for Madison City Schools. Students will have the day off unless a makeup day is needed.

There’s a lot for teens and adults to see and do at The Studio, so get started by attending orientation to the Madison Library Makerspace! In this weekly program for we’ll introduce and demonstrate 3D printing, CNC machining, creative design software, and other Studio equipment. Encourage a love for nature and ornithology in our hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a birdhouse. Your young birdwatcher can observe birds’ behaviors like nest building and provide them a safe place to eat without the need for expensive equipment. Once your birdhouse is built, your child can decorate it with paint and stickers. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin.

The TMAS event is planned for parents and their children from ages 4 to 12. Registration is required and the first 50 families to register will receive a FREE hardcover book to take home with them. The book being featured for the April 16 event is Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin. This story, with Farmer Brown’s cows obtaining a typewriter to address their ideas about changes needing to be made at the farm, uses humor to show problem solving and what can happen when different groups cooperate and compromise. The guest reader will be Madison City Schools Superintendent Robby Parker. Following the reading of the story, those attending will break into small discussion groups, led by facilitators, to explore ways stories can open discussion of potentially difficult topics. Topics raised in Click, Clack, Moo include fairness, equity, citizenship, kindness, and gratitude.

Every spring and fall, the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau shows off Madison through its free walking tours. Tours are guided by local experts and focus on the historic district of the city. Popular for both visitors and locals, you can enjoy a 1-2 hour stroll by some of Alabama’s most beautiful antebellum mansions. Your guide will share stories about the homes’ owners as well as recognizing each site’s distinctive style. No tickets or reservations are needed for walking tours. Just bring yourself (and your thirst for historical knowledge!) If the rain is light, bring your umbrellas! If the weather is severe or there is heavy rain, the CVB will announce cancellations prior to the tour’s departure via social media.
