St. Patrick’s Day in Huntsville
Éirinn go Brách!
St. Parick’s Day in Huntsville is always fun, but this year there are even MORE festivities for kids and families! After the annual parade the first ever St. Patrick’s Day Festival will take place this Saturday at the Huntsville Depot Roundhouse, and there will be tons of kid’s activities to enjoy.
The Parade
The 38th Annual Ellen McAnelly Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 11:30 AM in downtown Huntsville on Saturday, March 14, 2015. This will be the largest parade to date, with almost 2,000 participants from over 125 groups marching, so the route has expanded a bit. The parade website has the updated route map on it, so check it before the parade to plan the perfect spot!
Parade Activities
- 10:30 am – Maple Hill Celtic Band will be performing live Irish music on the west side of the steps on the square.
- 11:30 am – Parade begins, RAIN OR SHINE!
St. Patrick’s Day Festival
1:00 – 5:00 PM at the Depot Roundhouse (map)
The Original Public House is hosting the first annual free Irish Festival at the Roundhouse immediately following the parade. It will feature live Irish music, Irish dancing, Guinness, food trucks, a bounce house, cornhole, and many other children’s activities. Performances will be by the Fitness Arts Center Irish dancers, Slipjig, and Bourbon and Shamrocks.
Party Into the Night… for the Whole Family!
3:00 – 11:00 PM at Straight to Ale (map)
Straight to Ale continues its annual tradition with the 3rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Party at the brewery. Admission is free, and children may also attend. Performances include Irish dancing and music by Black Market Haggis and Slipjig, with Bourbon and Shamrocks closing out the night.
Food Fighters will be on site to sell traditional Irish food. In addition to their regular brews, Straight to Ale will have Rocket City Red and Dis Lil Irish Lass Irish Stout on tap.
NOTE: While family-friendly, we’d only recommend this activity for families with kids ages 10+, mainly due to the late hour and libations.
