Pottery By You specializes in children’s pieces and personalized pieces of pottery, such as handprints and footprints on plates, bowls, tiles, and more. It’s a great place for groups or individuals to paint their own pottery. They also specialize in birthday parties and art parties.[sws_pullquote_left]There is no artistic experience needed—the Handleys have stamps, stencils, and a variety of techniques to help anyone paint their own masterpiece. [/sws_pullquote_left] The shop is about 10 years old and is family owned and operated by a mom and her two daughters, Leah, Alexandra, and Lauren Handley. The ladies are extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating, as you will see within a few minutes of entering their doors; and they can arrange painting for groups even beyond their normal business hours—just ask!
Pottery By You is open to the public; you do not need an appointment, and kids are welcome. The pottery is already made and ready to be painted, and it takes up to two weeks for the pottery to be fired and ready to be picked up. There is no artistic experience needed—the Handleys have stamps, stencils, and a variety of techniques to help anyone paint their own masterpiece. If you don’t have the time to do it yourself, they will paint it for you (a small fee applies). They also have an email list that you can join to receive promos such as free custom painting.
In addition to individual pottery pieces, Pottery By You also offers fundraising for schools and churches in and around Madison. For example, one local school raises over $1,000 a year with a Christmas ornament project where Pottery By You sells the unpainted ornaments to the school at a discount rate and the school sells them to raise money for playground equipment. At Sharon Johnston Park in New Market, there is a gazebo with a handprint tile project that raised over $7,000 for the park.
So if you’re looking for a special holiday or birthday gift or if you’re looking for a fun girls’ night out, Pottery By You is a great place to go! Plus, you’ll be supporting a local mom-owned business!
