Baby Shower Heralds Change for Madison Moms

You don’t have to be a native of Madison to recognize that this town is growing and FAST. Over the last ten years the population has risen by more than 46%! That’s a lot of new people and all those people need places to live, shop, play and most importantly they need a place to get healthy.

[/pullquote]So along with a Target and Homegoods store, this booming little metropolis is also getting a brand new 60-bed hospital. Madison Hospital officially opens to the public on February 28th and earlier this week I got a peek at the latest medical digs which include a nursery and labor and delivery wing with four LDR (labor/delivery/recovery) rooms. That’s right, by June of 2012 mothers-to-be in Madison will have the option of giving birth in their own town!

In addition to being brand-new and still sparkly, Madison Hospital was designed with the patient in mind. From the big windows in every room, to the white boards that tell the patient what’s happening that day, to the cupboards that open on both sides of the room so there are less unnecessary disturbances. For moms, the LDR rooms are nice and spacious with a couch that folds out to a bed for dad. There is also a state of the art nursery, a dedicated lactation consultant and the OB/GYNs at the Clinic for Women in Madison will begin delivering in early June.

To celebrate this special arrival and to raise money for the new nursery, there will be a Baby Shower on February 12 from 2-4 PM. This event is open to the public and will include tours of the new facilities, photos, foods, crafts and favors for the kids. The cost is $10 per mother or grandmother and $1 per child 12 or under. Space is limited so call 256-265-8077 to reserve your spot and be one of the first to see the latest addition to Madison.

Below are some photos I took during my tour. Keep in mind that I am certainly not a professional photographer and most of the rooms were still “under wraps”. To see the finished product, you’ll just have to RSVP to the shower!
