Crafting with Kids: Lucky Flower Pots
The stores are beginning to fill with bright, springy décor; and with winter (hopefully) on its way out, March signals the very beginning of our shift into warmer months. In anticipation of sunshine, here is a simple St. Patrick’s Day-inspired project you can use to bring a little bit of early spring indoors.
Once you’ve finished customizing your flower pots, let your children continue getting their hands dirty – by helping you pot your first plants of the year!
What you need:
- Small, plain terra cotta pots
- Green and gold craft paints
- Green buttons
- Gold plastic coins
- Paint brush
- Tacky craft glue (such as Aleene’s brand)
Tip: Find individual craft-friendly packs of solid-colored buttons and plastic coins at area craft stores such as JoAnn Fabric and Crafts, Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
Instructions:
- Let your child paint each pot with either green or gold paint. (Tip: Turn the pots upside down for more stability as your child paints, and help them turn it around to cover all sides.)
- Let the pots dry completely (this will probably not take long, since terra cotta pots tend to soak up paint quickly).
- Apply tacky craft glue around the top rim of the pot and let your child adhere either green buttons or gold plastic coins. Let dry overnight.
