Cove Universal Playground At-a-Glance

Location: 429 Taylor Road, Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763 (map)

Cove Universal Playground amenities: mostly covered playground equipment, zipline, swings, parent-child swings, toddler play area, older kids play area, tons of slides, ample climbing areas, picture communication boards, high back seesaws, high back merry-go-rounds, and more.

Cove Universal Playground offers a fun and unique playground that will keep kids of all ages entertained for hours. My son loved running and climbing up the tunnels and ramps as well as playing with the musical instruments and sliding. He also kept going to the “cave” to pet the baby deer, loved howling like the wolf, and repeatedly waving to the frog hidden within the play structures.

The play area is entirely fenced in with double gates at the only entrance, so this is a playground for the runners! In addition there’s ample seating for the grownups and restrooms onsite as well as in the neighboring Mark Russell Recreation Center during open hours.

Another great feature is the toddler specific playground right next to the big kid one. Even as an overprotective mama, I felt comfortable with my two year old climbing and exploring this portion of Cove Universal Playground solo. Additionally it’s covered, so it’s great even in those hot summer months.

Know Before You Go

If you have teens or tweens in the family they can enjoy some time on the basketball court at the Mark Russell Recreation Center or head to the sports fields just behind the playground for a game of pickleball, volleyball, or lacrosse. Other things to keep in mind for your visit include:

  • Although the playground is mostly covered, you’ll still want to bring sunscreen and check the equipment depending on the time you visit.
  • The playground is a popular spot for Rocket City families, so plan accordingly.
  • The bathroom did not have a changing table, you’ll probably want to use your car.
  • There’s plenty of covered seating that’d be perfect for a picnic.
