Giving Back to Huntsville on #GivingTuesday
It has been almost 10 years since Rocket City Mom posted its first article about parenting in Huntsville and during that time we’ve been incredibly lucky to be embraced by a diverse network of small local businesses and non-profit organizations. In just the first year of our existence we partnered with the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, Village of Promise, and Crisis Services of North Alabama for major community drives and fundraisers.
In the years since we have run our yearly Learning Expo as a fundraiser benefiting numerous area non-profits including, but not limited to, Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theatre, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Alabama, and for the last several years Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama.
In 2013 we started The Great Diaper Drive and our wonderful media partners WHNT19 helped us take it to a whole new level that now regularly raises more than 300K diapers and wipes for area parents. Working with our friends over at the Food Bank of North Alabama this same team started the first diaper bank in our area.
A Time of Need
All of these various efforts were our way of saying thanks, of showing love for our town, of building a better community one supportive hand at a time. We benefitted as much as those organizations and we literally couldn’t have done it without them. Now it’s their turn. The devastating financial impact of this global pandemic has put non-profits in a terrible position. They are working harder than ever to support their communities but they are also suffering with a shortage of funds and sometimes staff. That’s why #GivingTuesdayNow is such an important day to show your support.
The Support of Friends
Huntsville is an amazing community of creators, helpers, and givers. The support of all of these organizations and so many more make it possible for Rocket City Mom to be a continued resource for area parents. We’re proud to be a part of this community and we are happy to show our support by giving back as a company and as individuals.
