If your child is anything like mine, they have been talking about Easter egg hunting all year, practicing hiding eggs and collecting them in a basket over and over. They are thrilled when they discover the hidden eggs as if they found the most amazing treasure. Now it is finally time, Easter is here and all that practice is about to pay off!

The Easter baskets we create for our kids usually mimic what we grew up with. Whether you wake up Easter morning to your basket already filled or have an empty basket and are eager to get out to the backyard to fill it up – Easter egg hunting is exciting and can be catered to what is most exciting for your child.

So be creative and have some fun! You don’t have to fill up your kid’s basket with sugar – here are our favorite non-candy things to include.

Non-Candy Easter Basket Ideas

1. Umbrellas – these can be hidden closed or open. Hanging from a tree branch, perhaps?
2. Rain boots next to the baskets
3. Stuffed bunnies; with names monogramed on the ears

Basket Ideas for Teens & Tweens

Older kids and teens can still Easter Egg hunt too! Change things up this year by hiding more teen approved items or changing the hunt to a flash light egg hunt and seek hidden treasures at night. Some items your older child or teen my appreciate:

If you want to find some awesome basket goodies that won’t be like everyone else’s, why not shop local? We love to find cool trinkets at the gift shops at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, Harrison Brothers Hardware, Burritt On the Mountain, Lowe Mill, Earlyworks Museum, Huntsville Museum of Art, The Toy Place Downtown, and the Space & Rocket Center! You’ll find unique items there to stuff your basket.

If there is less candy in the house, you are also less likely to steal some of the candy while your child naps, win-win. This year think about adding more non-candy treats to your Easter Egg Hunt!
