40th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Huntsville

Come join the Irish Society of North Alabama for the 40th Annual Ellen McAnelly Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Watching and marching in the parade are FREE and open to everyone. Come early so you can stake out your spectator spot early to get a good seat along the parade route and enjoy the various offerings happening before the parade begins. Get the route here.

Prep for the Solar Eclipse

In August, there will be a solar eclipse visible across most of the continental United States. Schools in the past have kept students indoors to avoid the possibility of the them looking at the sun. VBAS wants to encourage the schools and the public to get out and experience this wonder. Topics include: How to safely view the eclipse? Why eclipses occur? Where will the shadow fall? What could the weather be like? What will the eclipse be like in Huntsville? This presentation will include audience participation in explaining many parts of the eclipse and share some fun ways to view it!

St. Paddy’s Pet Parade in Madison

Walk from Discovery to BJHS (aprox. 3 miles) and back with your family and your people-friendly dogs! All pets must be leashed. Costumes & Irish dress for both humans and canines are encouraged! Bring a charitable food donation for either pets or their humans to participate.

This outdoor exhibit will most likely change the way you feel about those gloomy rainy days. Come experience the HBG Butterfly House in a brand new way! Hundreds of vibrant umbrellas will float above the greenery, trails, and turtles of the Purdy Butterfly House at Huntsville Botanical Garden. The installation uses colorful umbrellas to provide an amazing sight that evokes a careful, child-like energy. You’ll leave wanting to dance in puddles while “singing in the rain!” Don’t forget your rain boots!
