Huntsville weekend

Summer has flown by so fast, but you have one more weekend (two if you’re in Madison) to enjoy it before school starts – better make it count! As always we’ve got our favorite free and/or cheap things happening in the next few days below, but more can be found in our Event Calendar and Summer Fun Guide.

Athens Kiddie Carnival

Thursday through Saturday

A carnival just for kids? Yes, you heard us right and it is NOT TO BE MISSED. Seriously, read our review and you’ll be lining up. Tokens to ride are just $.50 each and all monies go to local charities. A North Alabama tradition that needs to become your family’s summer tradition.

Outdoor Summer Fun Bash

Friday from 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Hays Nature Preserve | More Info

Spend the last Friday of summer break doing special activities at Hays sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. There may be some optional obstacles involved. Dress to get dirty during the fun! Whole Foods Market Huntsville will be there for Fruit Friday, so we will stay fueled up on healthy snacks. Kids should wear old comfortable shoes and play clothes that can get a bit dirty. Bring a bottle of water and put on your preferred insect repellent! Children must be accompanied by an adult during the sessions.

“End of Summer” Fun Day

Friday from 9:30 – 11:30 AM

Bring your friends and family to celebrate the end of summer. Bouncy Houses, Hot dogs, local firemen and police, piñatas and lots of bubbles are all on the itinerary. Donations are accepted.

Family Game Day

Saturday from 10Am – 7PM

Bring the family and come play a variety of games! Some of the games include, Tenzi, Spot it, Tapple, and many more. Come back Saturday for the Science Slime Time at 3PM!

Movie in the Park

Friday from 6:30 – 9:30 PM

Movies in the Park has quickly become one of Huntsville’s most anticipated summer events. Family-friendly films are shown at sundown on a big inflatable screen in Big Spring Park. Folks arrive early to claim a prime viewing spot and enjoy featured entertainment before the movie begins, and families can take advantage of the Kids Corner area as well as food trucks starting at 6PM. Movies begin at sundown. Tonight’s feature is Inside Out.

CAFY Back to School Celebration

Saturday from 10AM – 2PM

Entertainment, food, activities, challenges, contests, give-aways, prizes, inflatables, back packs and school supplies. All this and more is waiting for your at this annual event. Preparing Teens for success as they venture into adulthood, enter the workforce, or pursue higher education is the goal. There’s even a Talent Show at 12:30!

Planetarium Show

Do some star gazing with local experts and learn all about the Milky Way. Plan to arrive 30 minutes before the program in order to have time to park and find a seat. The Huntsville Community Chorus Association presents Into the Woods. “Careful what you wish for…” In Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s fairy-tale inspired musical, the characters venture Into the Woods to make their wishes come true – the baker and his wife wish for a child; Cinderella wishes to go to the festival; and Jack wishes for a cow that will give milk. See the show, be entertained by wonderful young performers, and find out what happens after “happily ever after”!

Dinosaurs UpROAR Alive!
