Congratulations – if you’re reading this, that means it’s Thursday and you’ve ALMOST made it to the weekend!
Every week we love to list our favorite picks that are free (or cheap), fun, and family-friendly here in Huntsville. If it’s something kids and parents will love chances are we know about it. Don’t see something that tickles your fancy below? Scroll through our whole Event Calendar for even more ideas!
Something that should be on every parent’s radar is our list of seasonal Consignment Sales. Those dates are coming up fast and our list will help you be in the know about the best times to go shopping.
See 101 World-Changing Inventions
OK, we know it’s not free, but I wouldn’t list it here if it weren’t worth every penny. This temporary exhibit will only be in Huntsville for a few more weeks, and it’s a great way to spend a chilly day with your family. From stone tools to the birth of the Internet, driven by necessity and accident we humans have shaped our own destiny through invention. It will inspire your kids to make their own inventions! PRO-TIP: If you want a ticket discount, stop by the Huntsville Visitor Center on Church Street.

Family Saturday Storytime
Saturday at 10:00 AM
Madison Public Library (map)
Working parents who miss the opportunity to take their little ones to storytime during the week now have a weekend option! Ms Teresa will host storytime in Madison with great books, crafts, and sometimes even puppets every 2nd and 4th Saturday. You can also check out a pile of picture books and, weather permitting, explore the Children’s Garden. Reading with your child is one of the best ways to bond with them and make them lifetime lovers of books & learning.
Drop In & Create 3-D Art
Saturday from 11AM-1PM
Huntsville Museum of Art (map)
We love this program series at HMA! Look for the whimsical faces and animals by glass artist Richard Jolley in the South by Southeast: Masters of Studio Glass exhibition. Families can create a “selfie” 3-D artwork using art papers, straws and other materials for embellishment. FREE admission for parents/guardians and children. The art activities program will be held in the Stender Family Interactive Education Galleries and is appropriate for the entire family.
Stephenie has worked with and around books and authors for over 12 years, both at retail booksellers and public libraries. She is a rare Huntsville native, mother of two high-energy teens and two ridiculous dogs, spouse of one incredible guy, and eerily addicted to community volunteering. When she's not being the Executive Editor for RCM she likes to stalk her favorite authors online, cook with way too much butter, and conduct freelance marketing and SMM work.
