Happy New Year, Huntsville! Technically, there are still a few more days of Christmas left, but I know most of us are busy sweeping up confetti, packing up the holiday decorations, and shopping the clearance sales this weekend. Most local schools are back in session Friday, and everyone seems to be in recovery mode, but if you are looking for free and fun things to do they can still be found.
Please keep in mind the events listed here are mainly the free or cheap ones happening in our area. There are more listed in our full Event Calendar.

If you’ve got little ones who need to get out of the house and move around, this is the place to be Friday morning. The Matrix offers a Whiz Kids Open Gym time several times a week for kids under six years old. The gym is HUGE with tons of room to run, jump, swing, and flop! It gives your kids the perfect venue to do all the monkeying around that you want them to be able to do, and saves your living room couch from destruction. Read our full review of this activity here.
